You think surfing and mountain climbing is more fun than riding four wheelers on dirt tracks and noodling at a man made lake?

I'm a resident of Seattle and a rabid sports fan. I have season tickets to the Mariners, Seahawaks, Tacoma Rainiers and before this season I've been a proud season ticket holder for the Sonics going on five years. As a seattle sports fan I can say that most people in Seattle are horrible sports fans. BUT...we are not to blame. In addition to being a sports nut, I own two sailboats, a personal aircraft, three pairs of skiis, a surfboard, an REI lifetime membership which allows me to climb any mountain within the state of WA at any time (except during the spring thaw, which would be suicide). I say that to say this: Seattle fans are pretty horrible because sports is the last on our list of personal recreations. I love the Sonics and I hope the people of OKC can give them a new home with the best fan base in the NBA. OKC could use a major sports town and Bennett seems like he really wants to deliver one to you. Good for him and you, OKC. There are easily a few hundred guys/gals who could easily buy another team, so this lawsuit is nothing more than pride. Pay no attention. And good luck guys!

o0x!!! big man!!! quoted in the Seattle paper!!! you've got your big boy pants now!!!

my group, the omaa spent $875 to bring a pulitzer winning nyt writer to town, spoke in multiple venues..educated many. He wrote me saying it was one of the most fulfilling weekends he'd had in many years..quite an experience with nice people and good times.

Anyway, your astroturf group buddies at citizens for a big league city spent $3500 dollars for a 30 second spot on a reality show featuring a bunch of dummies that look like they go to lifechurch eating bugs.

What a waste that was, but stay tuned more waste to come.

Can't wait to see you in person you little pathetic "look at me as a southpark character" kidult..

There's a difference between holding them to a lease and trying to keep them. The lawsuit could actually be construed as evidence that the city has actually conceded the team is eventually leaving. One generally doesn't try to poison a relationship they intend to maintain for awhile. This lawsuit is like filing divorce papers, and going to trial is akin to contesting how the assets are split.

Actually, it does not seem like Seattle is letting them go. They have a court case this June.

It is also apples to oranges, they have two other franchises.

The NBA has trouble competing in markets that also host Major League Baseball and NFL teams. That has been evident in New Orleans where the Saints sold out the season quickly after their return from Katrina and the Hornets (despite one of the league's best records) have been at or near the bottom of the NBA's attendence standings all year. The struggle has been even more pronounced in Seattle where the Sonics, despite being the city's first major professional franchise, have been lapped in popularity by the Seahawks and Mariners, culminating in the voters rebelling when the Sonics requested better facilities (the MLB and NFL teams both have brand new publicly funded stadiums). So, that's one part of it, the other is that Seattle can lose the Sonics and still have plenty of professional sports options, which put them in a situation to play hardball.
