Do not go to 71st and Riverside Drive in Tulsa. I repeat, DO NOT GO TO 71ST AND RIVERSIDE DRIVE IN TULSA. After the jump, we’ll tell you why.
First off, if you go to the drive-thru at the McDonald’s there you might get shot.
A fast food customer remains in intensive care after being shot by an employee. It happened Sunday night at a McDonald’s drive-thru window.
That’s not the strange part, though. The person who got shot was apparently trying to protect someone else. This is where it gets weird.
“Just thank you, just thank you for being that prince in the shining armor,” said Makayla Hall referring to Cox
Hall says she’s been having a hard time. She was there on Sunday night when Erick Thurman, an off-duty McDonald’s employee, opened fire on customer Jeff Cox.
“I just feel really disheartened over what happened, because of us,” said Hall.
Hall ordered food at the drive-thru at 2 a.m. They waited for more than an hour. She went up to the window and asked for a refund. That’s when she says the manager began cursing at her.
1. Prince in shining armor?
2. Waiting an hour+ for food at McDonald’s? Are McDonald’s in Tulsa different than everywhere else in the world?
If that’s not enough, three days later, same exact intersection, this happens.
Tulsa Police have released the name of the woman killed Wednesday evening in an auto-pedestrian accident near 71st and Riverside Drive.
…
The driver of a SUV told police officers, he knew he hit something, but didn’t know what it was. He stopped to check and found the woman lying in the road.
…
Tulsa Police say about an hour before Hewitt was hit, she had been involved in a traffic accident. The Hewitt’s car had been towed and Tulsa Police believe she may have been going to call for a ride when she walked out into the road.
This poor lady gets into and survives a car accident, only to be hit and killed by another car an hour later? Our terrible OKC intersections have nothing on this one.
(thanks, once again, to Ryan from OklahomaRock.com and apparent 71st and Riverside expert soonerchk for these stories)

My advice is to never go to Tulsa under any circumstances.
Because it’s much more safe in downtown OKC…
Well, downtown OKC is not filled with werewolves and zombies, so yes.
werewolves & zombies vs toby keith & bob barry………
toss up.
i’ll have an order of mcnuggets and an apple pie, easy on the semiautomatic gunfire.
that was the most poorly written story of all time. i read it twice and i still don’t know what the hell happened.
apparently I read and comprehend poorly because I understood it perfectly well.
“They waited for more than an hour”
sounds more like Braum’s to me…
If you are referring to The Tulsa World article about the shooting, I agree. It made no sense…
This has nothing to do with this scary ass intersection, but I just read a previous post and it reminded me.
Why are people who have lived in Austin the whiniest complainers? I know people who have moved here from all over the country. But the people who bitch and act like total snobs invariably are the ones who came from Austin.
Discuss.
your MSPaint skillz need work, tony
Who the hell waits for an HOUR for McDonald’s???
Usually at a McDonald’s you get the food quickly …. only it’s not your food.
Also, Tulsa seems to have a higher rate of gun crime. Probably because they are not an “NBA Town”.
John Steed: the phrase we paid for in OKC is “BIG LEAGUE CITY.” Get it right.
Hot Chicks > Fat Chicks
Pie > Weiners
OKC > Tulsa
Just a few observations… First, it’s amazing to me that the employee of McDonalds didn’t have a hispanic name. Have you looked inside a McDonalds lately? It’s the newest place for non-english speaking people to work. No wonder when you ask for a plain cheeseburger you get a chicken McNugget.
Second; Who in the heck waits for an Hour at McDonalds? Especially at 2 a.m.? Third; the person that prompted the Employee rampage said (in so many words)she was being a royal turd to the employee to begin with (although it doesn’t excuse pulling out his heater and blasting away). I wonder if she ever got her food or a refund. At just what point after the shooting did she ask for either? Finally, if some chick got a couple of million for spilling hot coffee on herself, don’t you think the guy that actually got shot by the McDonalds Manager may have a case for a couple of bucks? Gee, I love America, the land of opportunity for all!
Seriously, I start getting antsy after about three minutes of wiating in the drive thru lane. How in the world do you sit there for an hour before complaining?
+1 Dr. Bunsen Honeydrew for the Braums comment.
I think someone else found that story…..
I was born and raised in Tulsa, and I can corroborate that this intersection is nuts. Here’s why
-McDonald’s story
-There is also a Burger King at this intersection. When my friends and I were in high school, we came very close to witnessing a riot at this Burger King when the (primarily african american) staff served some (african american) customers before some (white trash) customers. It was all we could do to get out the door before the place went on lockdown.
-There is also a Luby’s at this intersection, which means old, dangerous drivers are prevalent at 4 p.m.
-Now there is a Starbucks at this intersection as well. Add caffeine to this mess and things only get worse.
The beauty of it all is that the Tulsa PD has a major office about six blocks away.
Tony, I would just like you to know, your drawering is very impressive. That is all.
i’m pretty sure there’s a vaguely-worded yet controversial state law that prohibits anyone waiting at a fast food drive-thru for over an hour from asking why they got shot. i wonder if the gun of a McDonald’s employee has a little picture of a bullet-riddled person instead of a proper trigger…
An hour at Mcdonalds? I’ve done that, I was passed out drunk in the back of a friends truck though while they chased after some mexican girls in Dallas for OU/tx.
This intersection looks AWESOME, I’m going to dress as a giant oven mit and yell that the world is ending on new years to add to the hysteria.
One intersection doth not a city make. OKC has PLENTY of shithole areas of its own. Not to mention shithole people. Indeed, one of the primary purposes of the Lost Ogle seems to be the ridicule of some of the worst that the State of Oklahoma has to offer (most of whom are from OKC). As a T-Town native and former Normanite (7 years), I know both sides of the State well. Tulsa has Oral Roberts, Richard Roberts, 71st and Riverside, etc., but also lots of beautiful areas (Woodward Park, Utica Square area), good resturants and bars, museums (Philbrook, Gilcrease) and history (Oil Capitol of the World, Tulsa Sound (J.J. Cale, Leon Russell).
So, don’t hate on the 918!
Shithole People would be a great band name.
