As you may have read at NewsOK.com over the weekend, six people were injured in a drive-by shooting at Bobo’s Chicken early Sunday morning. For those of you who don’t know a thing about this strange eatery, here is a good description from OKCbites. I figured it would be better to quote them since they actually had the nerve to go there.
Bobo’s is located in one of the highest crime areas in the city and attracts a sometimes mean looking crowd – depending on when you show up. After 2 AM this place can look like the set of a Tupoc Shakur video shoot. I have actually seen two midget Latino gangsta rappers get out of a low rider with hydraulics (I swear you can’t make this stuff up!!) Although I have never had any problems, I have felt threatened on occasion and have heard stories about shootings and the like. Personally, the air of adventure of going here is kind of fun (until I get jacked).
Midgets be damned, I think I’m going to stick with KFC or Popeye’s or even Wal-Mart fried chicken before I ever venture to Bobo’s. Hell, they could have Jessica Schambach in the parking lot hula hooping in a bikini and I’d still probably stay away. Eating fried chicken is bad enough for you as it is, the last thing you need to do is risk your life for it.
p.s. – Whoever wrote the Mr. Spriggs BBQ jingle should partner up with the Latino midget rappers and do a Bobo’s Chicken commercial.
p.s.2. – Unfortunately, it looks like none of these people were the ones who were shot.

Those Latino gangsta rappers that are mentioned are actually a pair of Native American, midget, Christian rappers named Lil’ Mike and Funny Bone. They already have a song about Bobo’s, and they have a booth at the flea market, which is where I met them a year or so ago. They may be worth their own Lost Ogle feature.

I’m with Common Sense on this one (that would make a good t-shirt incidentally) I think you fellas need to do some investigative journalism and head to the flea market so that we can have a full size feature on Lil’ Mike and Funny Bone! (or half-size I guess)

The violence at Bobo’s recently is surprising to me, since every time I go there, police all over the place, ordering food, stationed across the street, and strategically in the area. With the proposed Weed and Seed strategy coming to the area, I am really surprised that officers were not in the area, and that this happened.
About the roaches, I find the trailer (where the food is prepared and from which it is served) much cleaner than many establishments (especially chicken chains) here in OKC and I have had OSHA training.
Now, about Lil’ Mike and Funny Bone, their BoBo’s Chicken rap is a fantastic work. They perform Christian and inspirational rap concerts at churches all over this region. They agreed to perform for a Youth Explosion at our church (a very small congregation in northeast Oklahoma City). These young men waived a fee and did a tremendous job of inspiring young and old to seek a closer walk with the Lord. I have my AARP card and I got their message, so did the kids. Thank God for Lil’ Mike and Funny Bone.
I have learned that we like to judge people by their appearance (especially if they are different from what we are accustomed to), but too often, we are wrong in our judgment and our too often our judgment leads to harmful behavior.

Sister Foster might be right about the roach coach bit. Visit the health department scores http://www.ok.gov/health/pub/wrapper/foodservice.html and you’ll see Bobo apparently runs a pretty clean operation - cleaner than some upscale establishments on the same page.
Good thing that OU Medical Center is less than a mile away. Nothing like a level 1 trauma center to comfort you when the shooting starts.
By the way, you can get that Bobo’s rap as a ringtone for your phone. Although it is a great conversation starter, it will make you hungry every time you hear it…
I do not know about the commercial, but Mr. Spriggs has some good BBQ. Keeping Midwest City healthy for many years.

Well this is the third shooting I am aware of in 5 years. One of them resulting in the death of a young man from my church. I have heard of countless more. With that being said, I will tell you one thing about this place. I don’t give two flips what the risk is to getting some chicken from BoBo’s. If it’s my time, it will just have to be my time…..
That neighborhood is nothing compared to Alameda Street in Norman!
