It took me an hour to realize the explosion wasn’t part of the fireworks during Tulsa’s Freedom Fest show Saturday. Freedom Fest is of those events that mommy blogs cream about covering.
The show started at 9 p.m. and ended about 9:10 p.m. A shell exploded inside its launch tube, which started a fire. The Tulsa Fire Department put it out, but soaked the remaining fireworks.
As usual, people are complaining about the show, as if being disappointed is a new revelation. By the looks of the crowd and the many children with Kmart feet, I think they’ve had their share of disappointment in the form of unwanted pregnancy.
As word about the explosion traveled to my end of the park, I thought it could only be one person … Jerry Giordano. We know he really really really likes to celebrate July 4, and it’s the one-year anniversary of his DUI. However, there were no tread marks. It obviously wasn’t him.
I then considered Sally Kern. The fireworks are colorful, which she might deem as too ghey. That couldn’t be true; she’s too busy fighting for morality in Oklahoma City. How proud are you right now OKC?
I realized it must about the budget. Tulsa city employees are required to take eight unpaid furlough days this year. Twenty percent of the fireworks worked, the other 80 percent were on a furlough.
What’s important is that no one was hurt and I got mommy-blog quality pictures of a sunset. Because secretly, you’re all mommy blog readers.
