I was having difficulty coming up with a video to play this morning, so I decided to play a song from Oklahoma City’s most famous pop group from the 1990s that we nearly reunited at the Norman Music Festival.

I’ll admit it, I totally dug this song and this band. I’m pretty sure I bought the single from the New Jack City soundtrack, and I still remember thinking how cool it was when Adam Curry would mention on the MTV Top 20 countdown that Color Me Badd was from Oklahoma City. I also remember how uncomfortable and awkward it was when this song would come on the radio as my Mom drove me and my cousin to White Water. Then, once we’d get to White Water, we’d go play Street Fighter II in the arcade. I was always Blanka. Blanka kicked ass.

Aw yeah. George Michael, Kenny G, Milly Vanilli and The Other Guy. Those guys made the 405 proud. Until the day The Other Guy turned up working in a tire store and quit paying his child support and got busted for DUI and whatever.

I loved me some Blanka. But I was more of a Guile man. Nothing beats the “Sonic Boom”!

Blanka, Chun Li, and E. Honda belonged to the league of greatest close combat cheap shot characters ever. Out of those three, yes, Blanka was coolest because the other poor bastard got electrocuted. You could point and laugh at the skeleton that appeared due to the voltage. Let’s not kid ourselves though. Marvel VS. Capcom will always be better than SFII. Even SFII:Hyper and the one with Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile. No, ESPECIALLY the one with Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile.
