Friday night in the big town: tornado benefit edition

It’s Memorial Day weekend, and we have a very special edition of Friday Night in the Big Town for you, and we’re not talking about signed copy of the Gary England biography. Though, if you have one of those, we’ll totally buy it off you, for like, $20. Anyway, the reason this is a special edition is because we are featuring upcoming tornado relief events. Now, of course you can just donate money or supplies in whatever fashion you choose. But I know you guys. You like a party, or at the very least, an activity that might involve beer. And I’ve got you covered.

Here’s your Friday Night in the Big Town.

May 24: Blue Door Benefit Concert

Kevin Welch, Michael Fracasso, and Miss Brown to You will be performing at the Blue Door tonight at 8 PM. All proceeds will be going storm victims, and all the lovely music will be going straight into your ears. You can get tickets either from Ticketstorm or Party Galaxy locations.

May 24: The Younglings, The Kamals, and Trading Co. at the Blue Note

Look at this, y’all. This was a show that was just going to be a show on a Friday night. It was all set and scheduled. Then, Monday happened. Then, post storm, the bands and venue decided that all the proceeds would go to relief efforts and victims of the storm. Good on you, bands and bar. Good on you.

Help Moore Benefit Show

May 25: Help Moore Benefit Concert

Before you head out to the lake this weekend, or whatever it is that people do on Memorial Day, may I suggest you get yourself to the Speakeasy this Saturday night? We’ll be there. Josh Sallee will be there. Colourmusic, Sherree Chamberlin, and Pretty Black Chains will be there. We have raffle items, and 100% of the door proceeds and 10% of the bar sales are going to the Red Cross of central and western Oklahoma.

May 29: Music 4 Moore

What are you doing on Wednesday? Nothing? Not anymore. You’re going to see basically all the Oklahoma musicians at the Bricktown Events Center, and 100% of the ticket sales are going to the Red Cross of central and western Oklahoma. You can get some sweet Oklahoma beer, as well as some eats from a food truck. It’s basically the best thing you could do on a Wednesday.

May 29: Healing in the Heartland

If you miss the crowds at the Peake during Thunder games, then have I got a special offseason deal for you! A bunch of country superstars are putting on a show there. Blake Shelton and Carrie Underwood will perform, and Carrie’s even going to donate $1million from her recent tour. Way to be, Checotah.

Well, that’s what you have to do. Who doesn’t love good music for a good cause? Weirdos, that’s who. And if you can spare some time this weekend and feel like getting your hands dirty, there are lots of crews from Newcastle to Shawnee that need help cleaning up the mess. Let’s do this, Oklahoma.

Friday Night in the Big Town” is presented by Lucky Star Casino.  Visit LuckyStarCasino.org to check out a full calendar of their events and concerts.

  1. Just read that they are postponing the Edmond Jazz and Blues Festival this weekend out of respect for the storm victims. I was really looking forward to getting out of Moore for a little while and listening to Watermelon Slim Saturday night …

  2. Is it known if any/all of these events will also benefit other towns which received damage on Sunday and Monday?
