There are quite a few things to do here in the OKC area this weekend, but I would be remiss if I did not mention two events that do not quite fit the bill.
Have you ever wanted to see a big pile of crap play music? Well Motley Crue, Hinder and Stone Temple Pilots are playing the OKC Downtown Airpark tonight. I would write more about this event, but I in no way want to look like I am promoting the concert. I like a few STP songs, but I’m not sure I can handle this:
That’s the “new” Stone Temple Pilots with Chester Bennington. He was the screamo vocalist for Linkin Park. Now he’s impersonating Scott Weiland. Next thing you know, Mike Shinoda’s going to be the new third Beastie Boy.
With that out of the way, here are some things to do this weekend that do not involve the Oklahoma State Fair and TLO Trivia Night at Buffalo Wild Wings.
Oh, and happy Friday the 13th.
Ok, that’s not a picture of Weezer, but that is frontman Rivers Cuomo in the center in his late 80’s progressive metal band Avante Garde. Just wanted to share that.
I have a hard time with Weezer. Their first two albums, the blue album and “Pinkerton” are very good, but everything after that is the opposite of “very good”. Well, “Island in the Sun” was ok.
Still, I’m sure it will be a pretty good show. I would suggest paying attention during “My Name is Jonas” and “El Scorcho”, but check your Running with Friends during stuff from that “Make Believe” album.
It will definitely be better than watching Vince Neil sing and gyrate, or do anything really.
The Plaza is going scholastic this time around with “School Daze.” Did you catch how “days” is spelled with a “ze” and not a “ys”? Yeah, it’s going to get crazy.
An “awkward yearbook photobooth” will be set up so you can commemorate the night in tiny pictures. Be sure to wear clothing to make yourself stick out and look dorky so you get that warm feeling inside knowing everyone is looking at you. Hipsters refer to this as “everyday.”
Food will be on-hand. Heo’s Kitchen, The Loaded Bowl, Frank’s Wurst, Roxy’s Ice Cream Social and Taste of Soul Egg Roll will be there to make your stomach happy. Pie Junki is having “HapPi Hour” all night serving up all types of pie for $3.14 a slice.
Though we all know that only Regular Jim Traber can truly shape the minds of America’s youth, there will be some academia at the district this Friday. Paint N Cheers will be hosting a painting class while Everything Goes Dance Studio will be giving breakdance and salsa lessons beginning at 6:30 p.m.
As always there will be plenty of live music and art to broaden your horizons.
What’s better for someone who doesn’t know what to do on the weekend than attending an event where you have no idea what’s going to happen? I know that’s a tough sentence to read, but you’re a trooper.
Well improvisation will be the name of the game at the Reduxion Theatre Company this Saturday. Acts will include Chairold, an odd mix of acting and musical chairs (don’t ask me), and Anomaly, a troupe who uses a certain phrase to begin each scene, but differs wildly from there.
The night ends with a performance from YOU people as well as a Stand Up Comedy Jam. A great night of made-up fun had by all.
Well there you are, now go play.
