All-American Rejects: Yay or Nay

When it comes to music, we here at TheLostOgle are generally silent.  We give kudos to The Flaming Lips and go out of our way to proclaim the suckitude of Hinder, but otherwise, we don't say much.  We like to leave the music criticism to OklahomaRock.com, but when one of the nation's most popular bands comes from Stillwater, our silence is kind of deafening.

One reason I have personally hesitated to mention The All-American Rejects is I'm not sure what to think of them.  Look at them.  They're a pop-emo band with a lead singer who is also a model and a drummer who loves chamber music.  They are the kind of rock poseurs that I feel I should hate.

Thing is, I don't.  I sorted iTunes by number of plays recently and was a little surprised to see that "Move Along" (video above), one of A-AR's first hits, was near the top.  This could be explained away by the fact that my two year old son loves this song, so I tend to play it any time he is in the car.  Then again that is counter balanced by how much I listen to their new single, "Gives You Hell".  Let's just say with as good as the ClarkPupp has been at learning and reciting songs lately, the chorus of that song has kept me from playing it when he's around.

The obvious place to go for confirmation was Ryan from the aforementioned OklahomaRock.com.  Here's what he had to say:

[T]hey're okay.  From their recent interviews, I'd say they're really bright guys.  And, by all accounts, they're good guys too.  Their most recent video is hilarious, as is their Britney Spears' cover.  So, I deem it to be okay to like AAR.

That made me feel better, but I'd still like to poll our readers for final say on if I should be hanging my head in shame or just appreciating some corporate punk music.  What says you?
