On October 26th, Snoop Dogg will be performing a concert at the Lucky Star Casino. I’ve never been to a “rap” concert before, but this one will probably be my first. When I was a stupid teenager living in northwest Oklahoma City in the early to mid-1990s, Snoop Dogg was my favorite rapper. Considering I can probably only name 10 – 15 rappers, that’s not too big of deal.
In preparation for the show, we’ll be posting a 1990’s music video featuring Snoop for the next few weeks. The first music video is Dre Day. It’s from Dr. Dre’s classic 1992 gangsta rap album The Chronic. If you were a suburban white kid in the 1990s, it was required for you or a friend to own this tape or CD.
Anyway, Dre Day was my first exposure to the Snoop to the D-O-Double G. I’m pretty sure MTV played this video once every 20 minutes went if first came out. It made all of my friends, feel big, tough and like a gansta. In fact, I’m pretty sure this song is why my friend Josh bought a Monte Carlo and wanted us all to call him Goosh Dogg.
