GOP Lobbyist Chad Alexander likes to snort cocaine…

Earlier this year, I considered posting a list of the 10 Most Powerful Lobbyists in Oklahoma. I abandoned the project because I'm lazy and it was more difficult to compile than I thought, but before doing so, I asked several Moles who work in and around Oklahoma politics to send me their Top 10. One name that kept on popping up was Republican lobbyist (and 2011 Oklahoma City Community College Hall of Fame inductee) Chad Alexander.

Here are some things they wrote:

- Former state GOP chairman at the age of 11, now a veteran lobbyist who understands how to make lawmakers and clients relate to the bigger picture.

- Power player. Connected. Ambitious. In T.W. Shannon's corner.

- Hard partying coke head that probably hangs out with Wayne Coyne.

Okay, I just made up that last part, but it seems pretty accurate. Alexander was arrested Tuesday night after he was busted with cocaine and other pills during a traffic stop near the Cock-O-The-Walk. Via NewsOK.com:

Chad Alexander, a lobbyist and former chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party, was arrested on drug complaints after a traffic stop in Oklahoma City in which police officers said they found cocaine and pills.

He was booked in the Oklahoma County jail after his arrest Tuesday evening and was released after posting $5,000 bail, sheriff’s officials said Thursday.

A police report indicates he was arrested on complaints of possession of 3.35 grams of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, nine pills that weren’t further described. His 2014 Mercedes-Benz was searched after he was pulled over at NW 36 and Western.

Calls to Alexander, 40, of Choctaw, for comment were not immediately returned.

He is a consultant for Coalition for Oklahoma’s Future, which raised large sums from corporations and individuals in 2012 to help Republican incumbents in the Oklahoma Legislature beat back tea party challengers.

Since he's a tough on crime Republican, Alexander is obviously prepared to spend some hard time in one of our state's finest private prisons for his heinous crime. Check out this sincere apology that he issued via the McCarville Report:

To My Family, Friends, Colleagues, and Clients –

I regret to inform you that I will be taking a leave of absence from my personal and professional obligations for approximately the next 28 days. I am leaving immediately for inpatient care at the Sante Center for Healing in Argile, TX. Over the course of the last several months, due to the pressure of meeting the demands of my clients at the State Legislature, 15 campaigns, and my duties as a single father, I became personally overwhelmed and started down a path of dependency on chemical substances in an effort to maintain my workload. My dependency on chemical substances unfortunately culminated in my arrest on Tuesday, May 13th, 2014 in Oklahoma County.

With all respects to Louis CK, this is just another example of how great it is to be a (non-poor) white person in America. Unlike minorities, we don't use drugs because we're bad people or criminals or lazy welfare dependent hoolligans. We use them because we're overwhelmed with the stresses and demands of our important jobs and lifestyle. Seriously, you think it's stressful working a minimum wage job at Sonic to pay for food, rent or the electric bill? Imagine how stressful it is to make a car payment on a 2014 Mercedes?

All double-standards aside, the self-serving apology continues:

I have hired counsel for my legal matters and am working with them to aggressively pursue the best possible outcomes in my case. What began only a couple of months ago has quickly escalated to a point that has caused me to carefully re-evaluate myself and I am committed to making healthy and permanent changes to prevent anything like this from ever happening again. I deeply apologize for any embarrassment I have caused you, as a person in my life who has both trusted and loved me. Although my actions over the last few months have not met the standards that I strive so hard to maintain both personally and professionally, I want you to know that I am fully committed to dealing with my issues as professionally and proactively as possible. My only hope is that at some point in the future you will be willing to grant me another opportunity to earn your trust and to exhibit to you the healthy changes that I will be incorporating into my life.

As ashamed as I am of my decisions and conduct; however, I am both grateful and relieved that this unsustainable lifestyle has been exposed and that I can begin the process of seeking out the best help that I can to make sure that this kind of behavior and these kinds of decisions are behind me once and for all. For the time being, and at the advice of my counsel, I will not be at liberty to further discuss the facts of my arrest and/or case, and I hope that you can respect that. On a case-by-case basis, should it become necessary I would be happy to explore the possibility of more detailed discussions with the advice and consent of my attorney, Tommy Adler, of Atkins and Markoff Law Firm.

In all honesty, it's good that Chad has admitted to his demons and is seeking help. I'm sure he'll be out of rehab and helping the T.W. Shannon campaign in no time.

Yeah, about that. This arrest could have some major implications on the super tight race for the US Senate. As the Mole's mentioned, Alexander is a big supporter and ally of T.W. Shannon. How big?

Via USA Today:

Oklahomans for a Conservative Future has pumped nearly $650,000 into television and online ads and mailings to promote Republican Senate candidate T.W. Shannon ahead of June's Republican special primary election.

The group was incorporated by two Oklahoma-based lobbyists, Chad Alexander and Stephanie Milligan, and construction company executive Xavier Neira.

Alexander, a former state GOP chairman, said it offers "an avenue for Oklahoma interests' to get involved in the race. He said the organization is operating as a non-profit, rather than a political action committee that discloses funders, because it intends to remain active on conservative issues long after the election. (Online records show the organization initially registered as a for-profit corporation. Alexander said that was the result of a clerical error in the Oklahoma secretary of State's office.)

Shannon, the state's former House speaker, faces Rep. James Lankford, in the GOP primary to replace Sen. Tom Coburn, who is retiring from Congress. The winner of the June 24 primary is expected to prevail in the general election in November, given the state's large Republican electorate.

Shannon's campaign spokesman Kenneth Bricker declined to comment about the group's activity. "We don't coordinate with them," he said.

Yeah, they don't coordinate with each other. However, check out who is Chad Alexander's Facebook friend?

That little clicking sound you hear are the volunteers at James Lankford's campaign headquarters going through Facebook photo after Facebook photo trying to find one of T.W. Shannon and Chad Alexander shaking hands. Seriously, you have to think Lankford is going to use this to his advantage. I know that I sure would. One big advantage that Lankford has over Shannon is the he's the moral, churchy candidate. This just gives him more ammo to illustrate and make that point. Of course, T.W. Shannon could counter that he never ran church camp nicknamed "The Baptist Breeding Grounds." Maybe it evens out.
