Back in 2012, I was hit up by a friend to help "sponsor" some movie that her friend was making. The exchange went something like this:
"How much?"
"$200."
"What do I get?"
"Your name in the credits."
"I'll give you $75."
"Deal."
I had no clue at the time, but my friend's friend was Kyle Roberts and the movie he was making was The Posthuman Project. Adam mentioned its premier today in FNITBT. If you read The Oklahoman or Look at OKC, you may have heard of it. This is because:
A) The movie was directed by former Oklahoman videographer Kyle Roberts. I use the word "former" because Kyle was apparently let go in the this week's RIF.
B) The movie's story was created by Oklahoman features editor Matt Price. He's the comic book fanboy behind the paper's Nerdage blog.
Pro tip: Want to get a bunch of unwarranted publicity for your independent movie in the local newspaper? Get a job at the newspaper and have your friends and co-workers promote it for you. It's that easy!
I don't really know a whole lot about the Posthuman Project. Although I'm apparently a donor or whatever, I haven't seen it. I have talked to some people who watched it at DeadCenter and they kind of dodged the question, saying things like "It's ambitious" and "Has some nice effects" and "Wow, that girl in the striped shirt is kind of hot!"
I'd agree with the third critique. The girl's name is Alexandra Harris. She's an Edmond native and aspiring actress. You can see her (along with hopefully our name in the credits) in the Posthuman Project tonight at AMC.
