David Stanley is trying to exploit hurricanes for profit…

2:39 PM EDT on September 12, 2017

One trademark of a good con man is the ability to exploit tragedy for financial gain.

Knowing that, we shouldn't be too surprised that Rob Stanley – the talking head spokesperson for Oklahoma's most fined auto group – filmed a tacky Facebook video warning people about the toll Hurricanes Harvey and Irma may have on the Oklahoma car market.

Check this out. Hopefully the melancholy background piano music doesn't put you to sleep:

I don't mind using a hailstorm to try to swindle new customers, but that's just wrong.

First of all, I think I have vertigo from all the different camera angles. Second, I think I had that same necklace in high school. Third, this USA Today article (and this one on Jalopnik) kind of refutes Rob's claim that hurricanes will increase car prices. Sure, people will need cars in the Gulf Coast area, but to offset that, dealers and automakers will be more aggressive and competitive in their pricing as they go after new buyers and their insurance dollars.

That being, Rob is right in that there's going to be a lot of damaged vehicles being passed off by "unscrupulous folks," so if you have any questions or concerns about a car, go to the most unscrupulous folks in town! They'll take care of you and put you in a certified pre-owned KIA that may or may not have flood damage with no money down and $10,000 off NADA pricing!
