Friday Night in the Big Town: Music, Beer and More Beer

If the end of the Teachers Walkout has you down, here some things to do this weekend:

Oklahoma Songwriter’s Festival
4/13 – 4/14  |  Tower Theatre

This is the third year for this festival and it promises to be the best one yet. Spearheaded by Oklahoma native Zac Maloy, this event is an opportunity for local songwriters and musicians to collaborate and create. The festival culminates in a songwriter showcase Saturday night at Tower Theatre that includes Zac Maloy, Bob DiPiero, Travis Hill and Jaret Reddick. So if you’re a musician without an actual gig this weekend, you should check it out. If you’re more interested in basking in the creativity of others, this is for you.

Uptown 23rd Brewer’s Union Bar Crawl
4/14  |  2pm – 5:30pm
No pricing information available

Local brewers, Angry Scotsman Brewing, Vanessa House Beer Company, Elk Valley Brewing Co are sponsoring this bar crawl through the Uptown 23rd district. Day-drink your way to The Pump, Bunker Club and Ponyboy. Taste some local flavor, sample some new beers and support local breweries. Be sure to take and post plenty of photos you’ll regret the next day and can delete as you nurse your hangover!

McNellie’s Pub Run
4/14 |  3pm – 8pm

Red Coyote Running and Fitness have teamed up with McNellie’s Public House for a unique exercise experience, and it’s not even St. Patrick’s Day. Four miles, three beers and all the glory indeed. Runners can participate in the Guinness Challenge which requires them to finish three pints of Guinness over four miles before crossing the finish line. If running isn’t for you, at least go and cheer these folks on. The first three beers are consumed at the water stops with the last one at the finish line. There will be swag bags for participants as well as medals and free beers at the finish line.

Drink some beer, listen to some music and have a great weekend!
