Paul Folger is leaving Channel 5…

4:56 PM EDT on July 9, 2018

The Oklahoma City metro is about to lose a set of nice hair.

After 10 years of anchoring the Channel 5 news desk and sharing his many faces, we have learned that Paul Folger is leaving Oklahoma City for Minneapolis.

The news came via KSTP-TV in Minneapolis:

KSTP-TV, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS announced Monday that Paul Folger will be joining the station as a news anchor on Aug. 1, 2018.

“We could not be happier to welcome Paul to our news family,” said Anne Wittenborg, News Director for 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS. “Paul’s dedication to local news and his eagerness to be a part of our community makes him a perfect fit for our team!”

“Paul Folger brings a wealth of experience and passion for well-told stories to our newsroom,” said Rob Hubbard, President of Hubbard Television and General Manager of KSTP-TV. “With the addition of Paul to our 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS anchor team, we continue our commitment to deliver the best news product to our broadcast audience.”

This may seem like a surprise, but I've heard rumblings things weren't so rosy between Paul and Channel 5 management. During the last round of contract negotiations, I guess Paul got very upset when Channel 5 refused to give him his own Ogle-esque nightly opinion piece called "Folger's Crystals." It was supposed to be a light-hearted piece where he would share notes and tidbits from his adventures through the state. I guess Abigail wouldn't stand for it, and the whole deal fell apart.

Okay... Okay... I'm just joking around about that. I have a two-month old and honestly don't have time to worry about the inside details of Paul Folger's media career.

On that note, here's more:

Paul is currently a news anchor at KOCO, the ABC affiliate in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Paul will be anchoring the 5, 6 and 10 p.m. newscasts for 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS.

“I am honored to be a part of KSTP, a station with an amazing legacy,” Folger said. “I am all in! I love the Twin Cities, and I can’t wait to meet all of our viewers.”

We'd like to congratulate Paul on this big career move and wish him the best of luck in Minnesota. I look forward to reading his final farewell to OKC in a full-page newspaper ad.
