Congratulations, my fellow Oklahomans! You have made it to Friday. But not just any Friday! You’ve made it to Friday August 24th. No? Still not feeling #psyched #ready #HashtagBlessed for the end of the week? Well maybe you need a little taste of the weekend to give you the motivation to finish the workday strong before you morph into the chainsmoking, PBR drinking party goblin we all know and love. This week’s Friday Night in the Big Town is full of music, art, and the occasional misuse of eyeliner. Surely you’ll be cool enough to go to at least one of these events.
Play It Loud Live
Saturday 8/25 at 7:00 PM
Grand Casino Event Center
I don’t know about you, but I am sick of this new pop country scene. So sick in fact that Luke Bryan is scheduled to be the headlining performer in my own personal hell when I die. So if you’re also tired of the v-neck and baseball cap crap country and ready for a sound that will inspire you to either fight a stranger or cry over grandpa losing the family farm that never existed, the Play It Loud Live concert is for you. Join artists such as TJ Mayers, Casper McWade, Carter Sampson, and Levi Parham as they fill the Grand Casino Event Center with music while benefitting the Red Dirt Relief Fund.
Art Music Power Festival
Saturday 8/25 from 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Historic Film Row
With its combination of genre bending music and handcrafted art pieces with colors as bold as the women who paint them, the Art Music Power (AMP) Festival is a vibrant and exciting annual festival down on Film Row that is sure to entertain as much as it inspires. The music and art of AMP is powered by women, but welcoming to everyone. Even otter lovers.
Friday 8/24 at 6:30 PM
89th St OKC
The last time I saw Norma Jean in concert my mom found out on Facebook and offered to pray for me. This is less about the persona of the metalcore band and more about me wearing a black tank top with what appeared to her to be an inverted cross. Join Norma Jean and about 80 scene kids for a night of hardcore dancing and badass tracks this Friday in OKC. You won’t be sorry, but if you’re over 25 you will need Advil after headbanging so hard.
Norma Jean was Hayley’s first metal concert. It didn’t make her start listening to KISS albums backwards. Follow her on twitter @squirrellygeek
