In this week’s edition of “Oklahomans proving their stereotypes are just facts,” we look to my old stomping grounds in Elk City, America. Earlier this week, a man walked into Tractor Supply in Elk City to buy some feed for his animals. And like every Edmond mom with a gnarly purse yorkie named Princess, the man decided he couldn’t leave his pet behind.

That’s right, some guy bridled his horse and led him through the store like a Nichols Hills kid on a leash in Trader Joes… and it got 83,000 shares.
Now, having traded my Tecovas boots and taste for Bud Light for Sanooks and $12 beer when I headed east to make my home in the metro years ago, sometimes I forget just how different Elk Citians are from them urban folk out in Oklahoma City. But it’s still weird to me that this is a viral post. Hell, I can’t tell you how many times in the early 2000s I sat in the McDonald’s drive-thru behind a couple of horses. This isn’t as big of a deal in Elk City as the internet makes it to be. Now if you really want to see something different in Western Oklahoma, put a Hillary Clinton 2020 sticker on the back of your fuel efficient Prius before you roll in and you’ll be the talk of the town.
