It’s the weekend before Christmas, and if yours looks anything like mine, it’s packed with holiday parties. Some you’re excited for, others you just drink your way through graciously. But if you can squeeze a bit of outside the box fun into your overly scheduled weekend, The Lost Ogle—your most trusted-trusted source for all things Oklahoma City—has a few ideas for you.
Saturday, December 22nd | 6 – 11 p.m.
Anthem Brewing Company, Oklahoma City
Festivus for the rest of us! It’s that time of year again, when Anthem taps its limited release Festivus—a Bourbon Barrel Aged Christmas Ale—and invites you to celebrate the best of holidays. Be prepared to participate in the Airing of Grievances and Feats of Strength. Bonus points for wearing your best plaid onesie. Some special guests will be on hand, and Festivus will be in hand, on draft. If you can’t take one more Christmas party, this is the party for you.
Lucas has given us a thorough review of the new OKC Streetcar, but if you want to experience it for yourself, jump on! Rides are free to the public (which is nice, since we paid for it in the first place) through January 5th, as part of the OKC Streetcar Grand Opening Celebration. With special deals and discounts offered by local businesses along the route—including bars and restaurants—you’re destined to find some fun.
Winter Solstice Celebration
Friday, December 21st | 9 – 11 p.m.
Factory Obscura, Oklahoma City
Let’s face it, 2018 has been a shitty year. On the longest night of what feels like the longest year in recorded history, Factory Obscura invites you to let go of the past and set intentions for the future at the Winter Solstice Celebration. Let the trippy BEYOND experience illuminate the dark night, as you enjoy warm beverages, music from Kali Ra, and a stand with Oklahoma City-based poet Kerri Shadid. Walk the labyrinth to set intentions for new things in your life, then take a moment to savor the moment, with food served up by BlueJ’s Rollin’ Grill. Pro-tip: Be sure to bring your weed vape for an extra mind-blowing experience.
FREE Holiday Water Taxi Rides
All weekend long | 6 – 9 p.m.
Bricktown Canal, Oklahoma City
All aboard for an adventure cruise along the festively lit Bricktown Canal! Grab the whole damn family for a fun-filled float—which begins at the main Water Taxi dock (below Mickey Mantle’s) and runs in a continuous loop through Bricktown. This all-ages, free-to-the-public treat is made possible by the Downtown Business Improvement District, through the end of the month. Each trip takes 20 – 30 minutes, unless you go on a nog-fueled, off-script swim and injure yourself (in which case you should probably call these beautiful people). The tour is narrated, and all of the canal’s holiday decorations will be twinkling like the light in your little one’s eyes.
