Keepin It Country with Chris Janson
Grand Casino Resort and Hotel
Friday | 8 p.m.

Country artist Chris Janson will be testing the limits of redundancy by Keepin’ It Country at the Grand Casino this weekend. Apparently, this guy is a pretty big deal, if the wall of text on the Grand Casino’s website is to be believed: platinum albums, world tours, smash hits. One of his biggest songs, “Fix a Drink,” starts out great. He proudly proclaims he can fix a drink, and we are big fans of this. Right up until he starts describing the drinks he can fix, that is. Cheap whiskey and Mountain Dew is not a drink. It’s a travesty. Malibu, Cuervo and Coke are just as questionable. The song isn’t bad, and the concert ought to be pretty good. But do not let him buy you a drink. And definitely, don’t let him fix it.

Mardi Gras Weekend
Metro Area Locations

Mardi Gras is this coming Tuesday. Most of us will disregard the need to go to work on Wednesday and drink ourselves silly that evening, anyway. But for those of us who wish to partake in the Fat Tuesday debauchery without a Wednesday hangover, there are several events this weekend.

Our suggestion to make the most out of co-opting a religious celebration? A Mardi Gras event crawl. Start by teaching your children, nieces and nephews (or other small humans you may be entrusted with) to seize on any flimsy excuse to party. Begin your Fat Saturdaying at the family-friendly celebration at the OKC Myriad Botanical Gardens, Mardi Gras on Myriad Street, Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

From there, drop them off at the babysitter’s or return them to their owners, and head down to Norman for the Norman Mardi Gras Parade at 7 p.m. There will be floats, food and beads, and I’m pretty sure you do not have to flash anybody for them. In fact, there is reason to believe it is strongly discouraged by the Norman PD. Once the parade is finished, pick your favorite Norman bar and Mardi Gras it up. This is translated here as: Drink. Heavily.

If you want to stay in the city, we‘ve got you covered. Kick off your Saturday evening with the finest in banjo music at the American Banjo Museum’s Krewe de Banjo Mardi Gras Partyfrom 7 to 9 p.m. This knocks out two birds with one stone, as you have probably been threatening to wander into that museum every time you go down Sheridan, and it starts your evening off right. Tickets include standard N’awlin’s eats, so dinner is covered. After the music stops, you simply head to your favorite OKC waterin’ hole to drink. Heavily. (We recommend getting cocky at Cock o’ the Walk on Western!)

Have something that should be on our radar? Let us know.
