Weekend Radar

Your most trusted-trusted source for all-things Oklahoma City is back with its weekly feature, TLO Weekend Radar, highlighting a few of the most promising happenings in the metro.

This week we let you really wallow in nostalgia for the decades of your youth. From the music to movies to… trumpets.

P!nk: Beautiful Trauma World Tour
March 23 | 8:00pm
Chesapeake Energy Arena

The 2000s personified comes to Oklahoma City this weekend. P!nk is playing the Chesapeake with her Beautiful Trauma tour. Really channel your inner punk and clip all the metal stuff you own to your face as an homage to the singer. If you really want to get into the mood go watch all the videos of the music artist working with and talking about her daughter, Tree Herb Body Part. It is heart-meltingly adorable.

Trumpet Clouds @ Whiteout
March 23 | 7PM
11th and Broadway

Just like I did when I left my 20s, Oklahoma Contemporary says farewell to its trippy Whiteout exhibit on N. Walker with a proper and fitting trumpet tribute. Here are details via Oklahoma Contemporary:

When Erwin Redl’s Whiteout opened in New York City, Madison Square Park Conservancy commissioned Trumpet Clouds, a 60-minute mobile live-installation composed by Craig Shepard. The performance activated Whiteout and encouraged passersby to engage with the artwork.

Oklahoma Contemporary is continuing this pairing. On March 23, Craig Shepard, Sandy Coffin, Ryan Gardner and trumpet players from the Oklahoma State University Trumpet Studio will perform Trumpet Clouds at Campbell Art Park against the backdrop of the Oklahoma sunset.

Whiteout is one of the cooler public or immersive or whatever they call it art exhibits in town, and who doesn’t like trumpeting fanfare and revelry. Check out Whiteout before it’s gone. It’s very unOklahoma City.

Beer Yoga
March 23 | 11am-Noon
Coop Ale Works

COOP Ale Works celebrates the return of writhing around on the floor because of beer. This particular event goes in reverse order from most of our experiences combining beer and movement. Typically, you wriggle around somewhat awkwardly, convinced you are looking like a graceful ballet swan, all the while more closely resembling an entangled, epileptic giraffe because you’ve had a few too many beers. With beer yoga you get all the awkwardness out-of-the-way first and THEN get your beer. At least expectations will be set before you get your drink on. No surprises.

OKC Home and Outdoor Living Show
March 22-24
State Fair Park – Bennet Event Center

The steady gentrification of Oklahoma City marches forward this weekend as the Oklahoma State Fair Ground offers itself up to the HGTV fangirls of the metro. Some dudes from some shows about unrealistic home décor advice will be there smiling and smoldering. Because every home improvement “expert” has started their career with a modeling contract according to Home and Garden Television. Head to the fairgrounds and watch legging clad humans wander about carrying reusable Starbuck cups and an armful of super-trendy cactus-like plants.
