Tokelahoma! What to do on Oklahoma’s first legal 4/20?

Growing up in Oklahoma, many feared our great state would be one of the last bastions of support for the archaic principle of marijuana prohibition. As the buckle of the Bible belt, our state’s conservative values would typically send authorities chasing down any ganja-scented wind sweeping down the plains. But in the last six months, Oklahoma has grown surprising flowers from those conservative roots, in the form of one of the most progressive medical marijuana policies in the nation — and a budding, multi-million-dollar industry. As of April 15th, Oklahoma has approved over 100,000 individual patient applications!

Time really has flown, or maybe I just don’t remember parts of the last few months; that’s probably unrelated. Either way, medical marijuana patients in Oklahoma are about to celebrate our first proverbial stoner Independence Day — April 20th — without fear of an adorable police pup sniffing away our freedom!

While it would be completely reasonable to stay at home on 4/20 and see how close you can come to replicating a military grade smoke grenade with your medication, I thought I’d tell you folks about three cannabis related events happening on 4/20 in Oklahoma:

1. Chronic Palooza

When: 12 a.m. – 10 p.m. on 4/20
Where: State Fair Park | 3001 General Pershing Blvd., OKC

Chronic Palooza is shaping up to be one of the premier 4/20 events in Oklahoma. Free and open to the public, this all-day celebration will feature over 20 performances from bands and artists — including a special appearance by Cooking on High star, comedian Ngaio Bealum. There will also be nearly 20 certified medical doctors doing discounted medical marijuana recommendations as part of their attempt to make it into the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest medical marijuana patient drive in the United States. Come be a part of history!

2. Lucky’s First Annual 4/20 Spring Sesh
When: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. on 4/20
Where: Lucky’s Grow Supply | 7507 Broadway Ext., OKC

If you are looking to have your medicated brain broken by some amazing art, then this is the place to be! Hosting their first annual Spring Sesh, Lucky’s Grow Supply is bringing its guests aerial burlesque; a live, local art show; glass blowing; local DJs; and a whole lot more! This event is also free and open to the public.

3. FlowerCraft 420 Celebration
When: 4:20 – 8 p.m. on 4/20
Where: FlowerCraft Co. | 2606 S Sheridan Rd., Tulsa

The Flower District will be hopping on 4/20. One of my personal favorite dispensaries in Tulsa is hosting a shindig for the grand opening of their Event Center. Featuring local artists, henna tattoos, and the thing you never knew you wanted at a cannabis event: a chair masseuse! They will have a staffed consumption room (OMMA card required + $5 fee), where you can enjoy some chill time. Legally. Munchies and beverages will be available in that space. Speaking of munchies, the FlowerCraft Event Center will feature hemp-themed and cannabis-infused foods. There will even be vegan and vegetarian meal options.

For more events, deals, and 4/20 info, our friends over at r/OKmarijuana have put together a very useful mega thread where our fellow medical marijuana patients are posting all the things they see going on in Oklahoma on 4/20.

Regardless of what you do, be safe, have fun, and lets all appreciate this beautiful, brave new world responsibly!
