Weekend Radar

Your most trusted-trusted source for all-things Oklahoma City is back with its weekly feature, TLO Weekend Radar, highlighting a few of the most promising happenings in the metro. This weekend’s edition is brought to you by our friends at Energy FC.

This weekend is Cinco De Mayo, so don your sombrero and join the predominantly Caucasian revelry in celebrating a fairly minor victory in a war most of us have never heard of. We’ll be celebrating with cerveza, football, tequila, tacos and a few hearty belly laughs.

Taft Stadium

Our local football club is taking on the Tacoma Defiance on Saturday. This weekend, OKC’s branch of the most popular sport in all of the Latin world tosses their sombrero into the ring for Cinco de Mayo. Purchase four tickets for the match for $49 and get four tacos, thanks to the good folks at Sara Lee Bread. There is never a point at which four tacos is a bad thing. Personally, I would take three of my soccer-loving friends with me and eat all four tacos in front of them, but you are probably nicer than I am. There’s no better primer for a Sunday of cincoing and mayoing than tacos and fútbol.

May 3 & 4 | 7:30 & 9:30 p.m.
The Space

There is no better way to spend an evening than at a comedy show. It is pure entertainment — no matter how good or bad the talent with the mic. Even if the comedian sucks, you spend the evening laughing at how terrible they were. If they are top-notch, even better. The Space is bringing their third comedy revue to the stage, featuring Oklahoma comics telling jokes for Oklahomans. In full disclosure, The Space’s website abuses portmanteau privileges by wedging in the word, Oklahomegrown, but we are willing to overlook that just this once. Don’t let it happen again or we shall taunt you a second time, The Space.

Special Mention: Cinco De Mayo Festival 2019

If Friday and Saturday night was not quite enough 5th of May for you, never fear. There’s a festival on the actual Cinco de Mayo as well at Wiley Post Park. More tacos, more traditional dress, more cerveza.  Did we mention more tacos? Because there’s more tacos.
