Weekend Radar

Your most trusted-trusted source for all-things Oklahoma City is back with its weekly feature, TLO Weekend Radar, highlighting a few of the most promising happenings in the metro. This weekend’s edition is brought to you by our friends at Energy FC.

This weekend we will be handling our balls with expert level skill and pointing at the sky a lot, but this time not because of scud or condensate…

OKC Energy Vs LA Galaxy II
June 1 | 8 p.m.
Taft Stadium

Soccer returns for a third weekend in a row, as our own OKC Energy takes on the LA Galaxy II. The best part of this team is how cleverly they named themselves. Oh, the LA Galaxy has a reserve team now? Let’s really lean into some pretention, tack on a “the second,” and call it a day. Family tickets start as low as $11 this weekend, and kids eat free courtesy of Sara Lee Bread.

In addition to all that, members of the TLO family that don’t have baby twins will be there for TLO Night with The Energy. The first person to spot Louis reviewing the Sara Lee hot dog wins a prize!

2019 NCAA Softball College World Series
May 30 – June 4/5 | Game Times Vary
National Softball Hall of Fame

College baseball may have dominated the sports talk last weekend. This weekend the ladies take the field with the 2019 NCAA Softball College World Series at the National Softball Hall of Fame. Big yellow balls being hurled at frightening speeds don’t seem to phase any of the gals at the plate. But it does make for a fantastic weekend of supporting the biggest names in college softball. OU and OSU played Thursday night and plenty of fantastic teams are yet to take the field.

Star Spangled Salute Air Show
June 1-2 | 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Tinker Air Force Base

Living in Oklahoma, it is a common question: “Did I just hear thunder or an airplane?” The answer this weekend could really be either. The gates of Tinker Air Force Base will be flung open, as this year’s air show takes flight. The US Navy Blue Angels will dominate the skyways this weekend with the kind of shit I’m pretty sure pilots are told to never, ever do with their airplanes. Nevertheless, you can see them cheat death by literal inches both Saturday and Sunday. Plus parachuting maniacs, clearly demented stunt flyers, as well as the US Air Force expecting us to be impressed at seeing yet another AWACS in the air.

Have something we missed? Let us know in the comments.
