When I first moved to Edmond, I assumed I would be living in a safe, low-crime city with both a Chili's and an Outback Steakhouse. Five years later, not only has the Outback Steakhouse closed, but Edmond’s seedy crime underbelly has also begun to reveal itself. Hide your Lululemon active wear, Kade Spade purses, and essential oils. Edmond has a new criminal.

OKLAHOMA CITY – The FBI is searching for a suspect accused of robbing five banks in the Oklahoma City metro since December of last year.

Officials say they believe the suspect is a female and is known as the “Sweatpant Bandit.”

According to the FBI, the suspect has consistently dressed in athletic attire during each incident to include a long-sleeved sweatshirt. The suspect was seen carrying a blue-and-white bag with a floral print.

What? Calling this woman the “sweat pant bandit” is like calling Reba McEntire “the ginger from Oklahoma.” Yeah, it’s accurate. But it in no way does the lady justice. Instead, I am pitching that this thief be renamed “the Edmond Mom Marauder.” According to the article, the woman has robbed five banks across Edmond and OKC. Along with the comfy pants, she combines sporty sleeveless activewear paired with a flirty floral handbag and the same ballcap every middle-aged Edmond mom between hair appointments dons to hide their graying roots.  Plus, as anyone who has worked more than five minutes in a customer service gig north of Memorial Road knows, Edmond moms are really demanding when it comes to money.

FBI officials say during each robbery, the suspect entered the bank, approached a teller and presented a demand note. The suspect then left each location after receiving an undisclosed amount of money…

MidFirst Bank is offering a reward of up to a $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of this individual.

As someone who has nearly three years of work experience as a teller at a bank in north Edmond, I am not 100% sure this woman should be considered a robber after all. I think she’s just doing banking like any other Edmond mom. Yeah, she handed tellers a note asking for money while trying to conceal her identity and then rushed to get away. But my work experience has proven to me that nearly every other Edmond mom also thinks they’re too good to ask politely for service, hand over their ID for withdrawals, or wait patiently when transacting at the bank.
