Weekend Radar

Your most trusted-trusted source  for  all-things Oklahoma City is back with its weekly feature, TLO  Weekend Radar, highlighting a few of the most promising happenings in the metro.

This week we are celebrating a bright, sunny weekend with a whole bunch of guitars and beer — just the way dads everywhere like it. So garage those lawn mowers, put off the weeding ‘til next weekend and celebrate Father’s Day with some of OKC’s best offerings.

Bricktown Blues, Brews & BBQ Festival
June 14 & 15 | 5 p.m. – midnight
Bricktown Canal @ Oklahoma & Reno Ave.

There’s always been something about the soulful scream of a Blues guitar that just feels like summer. Combine it with an icy cold beer in your hand and a mouthful of juicy, sweet barbecue, and it is literally a perfect summer day. Especially for dad, who — let’s face it — doesn’t give a shit about the cool socks you ordered him last-minute from Stance. A Father’s Day experience beats a perfunctory present. Happening in the heart of Bricktown, on the Canal, some of the most talented Blues artists in Oklahoma (including a personal fave, Chanda Graham), will be showcasing their very best Bluesy, Jazzy, breathy musical stylings. Admission is free, open to the public and pet-friendly. The good times shall flow as freely and the Blues, Brews & BBQ. Gates open at 4:30 p.m. both days.

Trace Adkins
June 14 | 8 p.m.
Grand Casino Hotel & Resort

Nashville icon Trace Adkins takes the stage at Grand Casino this evening. Adkins may not be the country icon of the millennial generation, but with a shelf full of awards, 200 million+ YouTube hits and enough residual royalty money from his string of hits from the 90s to give precisely zero shits about millennial acceptance, he’s still cool. And he happily revels in the nostalgia of his history and still hits the studio from time to time. You can catch his act tonight. Bring cash. Not for him (he’s not that kind of act) but for the casino. If you are going to be there for the country, you might as well see if you can walk away with a little cash.

Father’s Day Eve Trivia Event
June 15 | 4 – 6 p.m.
Anthem Brewing Taproom

Bring your dad out for a trivia event all about — and for — dads. Dare to correctly answer our cleverest questions about all-things fatherhood: musk, mahogany, Mike Brady, laughing at their own terrible jokes. Bring your dad or someone else’s dad. Come stag, whatever. There will be cash prizes, delicious beer and Anthem Brewing swag.
