Most people don’t know what the USBG is, but it’s a secret handshake for your favorite bartenders and servers in town. The United States Bartender’s Guild has a chapter here in Oklahoma City, and it’s been changing and improving things behind the scenes for years.
We always say that Free Queso gives you a glimpse of what’s going on in the backrooms of the service industry, and this episode is perhaps our most illuminating one yet. Alex Larrea, former president and current board member of USBG OKC, came out to the Lost Ogle Bricktown Digital Media Studio to chat with us about the Guild. They provide education and camaraderie for local bartenders, as well as pushing environmental sustainability and charity fundraisers.
This episode gets gritty into how the bar scene has evolved in OKC over the last few years, our thoughts on specific bars that have closed down, and also frozen drinks from gas stations. We even challenge Alex to a one-man knife-fight where he has to create potent potables out of weird ingredients that we name on the fly.
