The newest buzzword making the rounds in this terrifying day and age is ‘Covidiot.’ Here’s the general consensus on Urban Dictionary:
1. A stupid person who stubbornly ignores ‘social distancing’ protocol, thus helping to further spread Covid-19.
2. A stupid person who hoards groceries, needlessly spreading Covid-19 fears and depriving others of vital supplies.
It may be time to add a third definition to the list – a stupid, callous and ignorant person who lacks critical thinking skills and is okay with 2% of our population dying.
If you need an example, check out this FB post by Edmond resident Wendy Jo Hampton that’s making the rounds on social media. She’s a former sales rep at Channel 25 and now operates Express Toxicology Services – a medical marijuana testing facility in Edmond:
Check out this FB post by an Edmond Covidiot. Apparently, we’re all “waaaay too concerned about saving 2% of the population.” Here in OK, that would be about 75,000 people. I feel dumber after reading it. pic.twitter.com/VA4ulrzU50

Although it may be tempting, if you have a fever, dry cough and have lost your sense of smell, do not go lick the door knobs at Express Toxicology Services! Although it only affects 2% of people (according to Wendy’s research), that’s a rude, irresponsible and not safe thing to do. Call your doctor and go wait in line for a respirator instead!
Seriously, Wendy may want to test the bowl of marijuana she smoked before posting that idiotic, illogical and inhumane rant, because it makes you say and do things that are incredibly stupid.
First of all, if you don’t care about 2% of the world’s population, you’re just a greedy, entitled moron – or as Kevin Stitt would call it, a dinner buddy.
Second, if you think the economy stinks today, just wait until 2% of the population dies – and the US healthcare system crumbles with it. But who cares. That would definitely be worth it so you can continue to live your ‘normal’ affluent Edmond SUV life.
Third, if you’re not able to differentiate the harm and impact of a highly contagious, deadly virus traveling the world at warp speed from the adverse health effects of smoking, opioids and pesticides, you should probably start keeping your thoughts inside your fried brain where they belong.
Anyway, I have a feeling there are a lot of other Covidiots living and working and posting in the shadows like Wendy. If you want to send screenshots to us for possible publication, please do.
Natural selection is happening. Fewer Covidiots.
A Darwin Award for Ms. Hampton.
Woof!
A Darwin Award for Ms. Hampton.
Woof!
She is stupidly forgetting the 8% of the population (26.4M people) that requires hospitalization resulting from COVID-19. Even if you don’t care about the ~2% (6M people) (which may actually be higher in the US because we have the greatest healthcare system in the world), the people hospitalized for 14-19 days will also have a significant impact on the rest of us. I’m certain those hospitals are just begging to waive or forgive those medical bills.
Digging deeper into this, if she does operate a dispensary, allowing people out will have a huge economic impact on her business. People who smoke marijuana have a disproportionately higher rate of respiratory issues. Guess what affects people with respiratory issues? I don’t know what that could be.
What a fucking moron.
Rant Over
So I have a solution: Italy has had to triage the ventilators so some patients die due to rationing of them. When it happens here & it will because of the stupidity of the Trumper disorganization & people like her, I propose the following criteria: did you vote for dumpster fire Trump? Do you believe a 2% death rate is acceptable? Then you go to the back of the line & if you still need it when there is one available, lucky you other wise you have some skin in the game. You thinks it is just a hoax anyway or every one is overreacting.
Awesome. Like your thoughts. If you think Thumper thin skin is doing a great job and it’s just the libtards and lying media trying to hurt Trump and covid-19 is a hoax. Great, beautiful and it will disappear, (along with a 100,000 + citizens) you’re entitled to your own stupidity and opinion! Then, if you or a family member become ill, oops you go to the end of the line for medical care. Short on ventilators…..if all the other patients have been intubated and there are any left, beg for it.
She owns/operates a CANNABIS TESTING LAB!!! Whose sole intent is to screen for safe products for our patients. If she doesn’t care about the 2%, why does she own a lab who is there to care about the 5% of Oklahomans who have medical marijuana cards… Or even more, the 1% that could be immunocompromised from using unsafe product they her business is responsible for testing.
Darwin has ways to deal with such people.
Republicans were screaming about Obama care death panels in 2010.
Being almost 66 w/ COPD and cardio-vascular issues. I’m tickled pink I don’t live in Italy or Spain..at this moment, anyway. Of course, I am shooing people away at work, going home, then starting over the next day for the foreseeable future…and I read this poster, who would already have me dead and buried when I’m still quite productive. A pox upon her…but not THIS pox. I’m not an asshole
And then she gets a tickle in her throat…
Add a fourth definition. City officials who overreact and take measures above and beyond what are needed. Norman mayor Clark leads the way. She’s expected to announce a stay at home order today.
Feel free to go out asshole. Just stay the fuck away from me.
Gotta just love the “experts” that have zero medical training but “know everything.”
When I was a student nurse, we learned how contamination was spread by dipping our finger tips in red ink & then provide care for each other & go about our day. The last part of our day was cleaning the ink off everything.
Leaves a lasting impression.
If we all stayed at home for a few weeks and complied, we’d be near done with this thing already. People who think it’s “above and beyond” are why we’re probably going to be dealing with this for months.
THANK YOU!!!

Kind of on the nose but….
Honestly if this isn’t childish idk what is. If anything we should be teaching our people to be able to have their open opinions. Nice to know that if you say the wrong thing that the news will blast your name and business across Edmond with bashing comments and insults. Childish childish childish.
No one is prosecuting her for her opinions. If she is free to have them, then everyone is free to call it out as dangerous and stupid. Free speech works both ways.
Yuck—I won’t click on Lost Ogle “news reports” anymore. Not interested in opinions or bashing other Americans, just the facts please.
You’re new here, right?
Great hit piece on a non public individual based on her person FB page. This was a horrible personal attack. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. I grew up with Wendy and this is sickening.
Hint: don’t post something on FB if you don’t want the world to see it.
No one is persecuting her, she’s entitled to her opinion, but I can assure you, if one of her family members fall in to that 2%, I bet her tune would change quickly.
I’m not going to change my opinion of Wendy because one of my family members passed away from this virus. Get over yourself.
Thought this was directed at my post above. You are still talking about a decent person here. Lets not hope someone close to her dies to prove a point.
Lots of triggered people here who can’t seem to handle the fact that people are allowed to disagree with those who think it’s no big deal. I have no doubt that she is probably a good person the vast majority of the time. But here’s the reality, she’s wrong here. I don’t care if it’s her own personal facebook page, she’s wrong. Decent people can be wrong, they can spread bad information, they can be selfish and even stupid at times. And there’s nothing wrong with saying that someone who is wrong is wrong. That doesn’t make this a hit piece, it makes it correcting some horrible misinformation.
Shutting down non-essential services for 3 weeks isn’t going to kill the nation. That idea is so patently ludicrous that it deserves to be corrected. If our country ceased to exist after 3 weeks of not going to salons or movies or Main Event, then our country is far, far, far from ever being the greatest country on earth, and all of the earlier generations that dealt with the Great Depression and the gas rations of the 70’s are laughing at that notion now . 98% of people are going to be just fine after staying at home for a bit.
Flattening the curve isn’t just prolonging the inevitable, it’s literally decreasing the death toll. Yes, people may still get it, but if they’re more spread apart, they won’t be dying in hospital tents waiting for ventilators. I don’t know how anyone who went to a grocery store today to find things picked clean could somehow come to the conclusion that more demand in a shorter amount of time won’t lead to lacking important things.
Yes, it’s hurting the economy, yes we should do everything we can to make sure that people can pay their bills to get through it. But the threat to the economy of 2% of people in the country dying of a disease is way worse than the threat to the economy of spending 3 weeks without getting a manicure.
Those are the facts.
I hope she doesn’t get it, I hope no one in her family gets it. Hell, I hope I’m wrong and this all blows over quickly and we look back at this time as the time we went way overboard. But I’d rather that happen than for us to suddenly be faced with the reality that a not-insignificant chunk of our population dying because some people couldn’t go without getting their hair colored in a salon.
Also, this disease is sending much more young people to the hospital with serious complications than people care to admit.
I believe the post was about concern of long term economics effects. I also don’t believe she was suggesting it was ok to kill 2% of the population. I have seen plenty of similar posts. This article focused on attacking one. When you say you hope her and her family don’t get the virus, lets also hope we and our family members don’t get singled out for a personal FB post and called a “stupid, callous and ignorant person who lacks critical thinking skills” by a “journalist”. I hope we can at least agree on that.
She said we shouldn’t take measures to protect the 2% due to the inconvenience of the 98% percent. Even if she wasn’t calling for summary executions, she’s saying that she’s ok with 2% being at increased risk to not try to mitigate the spread of the virus and that’s not any better, I don’t care how you try to spin it.
As far as the long term economic effects go… we’ll survive. It’s pure alarmism to think that we won’t recover from a few weeks being off, we will. Yes, there are some small businesses that will suffer. We should make sure to support them when possible and try to help them make it through this. Major corporations, they’re just lobbying for more taxpayer money. I work for a small business, I know the danger very well. But when weighing a small businesses vs. a life, the life wins. It sucks for the business, but that’s the decision we have to make. We survived the Great Depression. We survived 9/11. We survived WWII. We will survive Covid.
And lastly, I don’t care who made the comments or in what format, if you say something to the public, the public has the right to respond to you. She could be the president, the Lt. Gov. of Texas, or just a small business owner in Oklahoma and it doesn’t change anything. What she said isn’t right, and that attitude is what will lead to way more people dying than is necessary.
You seem like a reasonable person and your comments are some of the nicer on here. Everyone is worried, and even scared, right now. I don’t think a journalist singling out a non public figure, when there are plenty of examples of panic, and personally attacking her is appropriate. This is a pretty nasty article if I have ever seen one. Personal attacks could have been replaced with other examples and critique of the comments themselves. Single out public figures or just critique the message. There are a lot of nasty things being said on comments too. Again, you seem like a reasonable person and maybe we just disagree on what is appropriate.
This twatter chain doesn’t do her any good: https://mobile.twitter.com/TheLostOgle/status/1242449119240761345
No it does not. That second screenshot of her comment is worse than the first. I am not defending it but I don’t understand singling her out when there are plenty of bad FB posts. The comments are horrible. I don’t think anyone is better for this and we should all reconsider how we constantly attack each other on social media. AND….be more thoughtful when we post anything on social media.
It’s TLO, so the the standards are pretty low to begin with. Don’t forget, internets is serious business.
She posted about it in public, and she’s the CEO of a medical testing service, so no, I don’t think she’s immune from criticism for posting things.
This article isn’t even really that particularly nasty. The comments can be, but people are heated about this because there’s a sizable portion of people who are trying to make this out like it’s no big deal and we shouldn’t take measures to stop it from growing, which is irresponsible and likely to lead to way more people dying than it otherwise would be. These people want to put the short-term economy over people’s lives, which, I’m sorry, is reprehensible.
If I am being unbiased, I think your first point is fair. On a personal level, I don’t know how much fallout Wendy deserves. I still think the article was pretty nasty.
In reality, she got called out on a local blog/twitter that most of the population of her city doesn’t know/care about, so any fallout is likely to be minimal in the long run. She’s not going to lose her business over this or anything, she has some anonymous people on the internet criticizing something she said that was wrong. I don’t think it’s anything to white knight over when the damage to her is likely to sit close to the non-existent end of the spectrum.
I agree with you on the caring part, but they definitely know about us!
Would you consider posting her apology on your Twitter or updating that she did apologize? She posted an apology on Facebook.
Hey Wendy, stop making fake accounts and sending your ‘friends’ to defend your dumb comments. Why don’t you put all that energy into self reflection. Try to figure out where you started being a callous person and lost your ability to give a shit about anyone other than yourself.
Isn’t it kind of obvious it’s just her mouth moving but the words coming out are those of lumpy hannity or rush “oxy” limbaugh.
Few Fox News viewers can think for themselves any longer.
There seem to be two separate kinds of reactions to the current plague:
1) The humanity! All these people gravely ill, often unto death, with the hospitals filling up and lacking the people and equipment to take care of everyone. Morgues filling, refrigerator trailers being used to store the overflow dead.
2) My MONEY! Make America SHOP again!
