Mercury Insurance using beautiful OKC National Memorial photo for online ads…

12:55 PM EST on February 25, 2021

Earlier today, an Ogle Mole pointed me to a Mercury Insurance ad that's causing quite a stir on Oklahoma Reddit. I guess the Reddit folks are mad because the insurance company is using a serene photo of a memorial built to honor the 168 people who were massacred in the OKC bombing to promote the hundreds of dollars Oklahomans could save each year on car insurance:

Okay, that may be a bit tacky, but you have to give props to the designer for using a pic that would get everybody's attention! Remember – car insurance advertising is competitive and cutthroat. They're going up against lizards, Flo and that little cartoon general for eyeballs. You gotta do what you gotta do.

Then again, that would probably be giving the designer – or robot – who came up with the advertisement too much credit. They probably just typed Oklahoma landmarks into Shutterstock in used the first photo that nicely fit the color scheme and pallet.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what photo Mercury uses when or if they ever update that ad. I'm going to bet it's either Scissortail Bridge, the Devon Tower or devastation caused by the May 3rd tornado.
