Stitt calls up National Guard to pander to anti-vaxxers

Earlier this week, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin imploring him to remove federal vaccine mandates for the Oklahoma National Guard.

Stitt did this because...

A) 10% of Oklahoma's national guardsmen – about 800 people or so – have refused the vaccine and are unable to work.

B) Pandering to anti-vaxxers and criticizing every move of the Joe Biden administration are two key components of Stitt's governing strategy!

Here's the letter:

Dear Secretary Austin,

I am writing to request that the Department of Defense immediately consider suspending the COVID-19 vaccine requirement for national guardsmen in Oklahoma. This mandate violates the personal freedoms of many Oklahomans, as it asks them to potentially sacrifice their personal beliefs in order to not lose their jobs. All of our national guardsmen take this calling very seriously. These are patriotic citizens who are willing to put their lives on the line to protect others in our communities during times of greatest need.

Yep, our national guardsmen are patriotic citizens who are willing to put their lives on the line to protect others in our communities during times of greatest need.

Well, unless it involves getting a safe, effective vaccine to help stop the spread of a deadly, highly-contagious virus during a pandemic. In those situations, I guess 10% of our guardsmen turn into selfish, treacherous cowards who would rather put their life on the line to support baseless, boogieman anti-vaxxer fears as opposed to protecting others. Good to know, huh?

In addition to the hypocritical reasons to oppose the vaccine mandate for national guardsmen, Stitt did have some very practical concerns:

There are also practical considerations that would support a decision to suspend this requirement for a mandate. Our state experiences regular extremes in weather that create serious challenges. Last October, our state experienced an unprecedented ice storm which crippled Oklahoma for days. This past February, our state experienced some of the coldest temperatures on record that pushed our resources to the breaking point.

Yep, who could forget the record-breaking low temperatures and snowfall that struck the state back in February!

Well, I guess Kevin Stitt could. If you remember correctly, he made sure to hit the Santa Fe ski slopes when all that went down. Hell, maybe that's why he's so concerned about 800 guardsmen not getting the vaccine! Without the national guard, who's going to keep the airports open for him to sneak away during the next state of emergency!

false

Anyway, instead of wasting time writing letters and pandering to Derplahoman voters, it would be nice to see Stitt actually encourage the anti-vaxxer guardsmen to just get the vaccine. I doubt it would work, though. I think the only thing that will convince them to get a vaccine is if another batch of 2020-style protests, demonstrations and "riots" break out over the winter. I bet many of that 800 or so would gladly get a safe. effective vaccine if it means they get a chance to shoot tear gas at ANTIFA hoodlums.
