Screw 3-inches of highway. Let’s change the name of Lawton to Lincoln!

11:54 AM EST on December 10, 2021

Earlier this week, some desperate for attention goofballs in the Oklahoma Legislature took the Lincoln Riley trolling a bit too far and issued a press release announcing they want to name 3-inches of "desolate" highway in the Oklahoma panhandle after Lincoln Riley.

Here's what the lawmaker said:

“While we are all free to pursue employment elsewhere, there is a level of professionalism that is expected to be adhered to,” Coleman said in a statement. “From all indications, professionalism was pretty much absent in how this departure was executed.

Yep, "there is a level of professionalism that is expected to be adhered to," says the lawmaker who just introduced a joke bill proposing we name three inches of the highway after a state employee who left for better opportunities in California. Give Oklahoma lawmakers credit. Whether they're being serious or goofing off, they're hypocrites to the end!

Naturally, the story took off in the clickbait circuit and social mediasphere, with websites all over the world taking the low-hanging headline fruit and running with it:

As a very unprofessional person, I don't have an issue with our lawmaker's unprofessionalism. In fact, I don't think our lawmakers were unprofessional enough!

Instead of naming a three-inch stretch of highway after Lincoln, they should really hit him where it hurts and name Lincoln Riley's Dry Brisket the Official Overcooked BBQ of Oklahoma, or they could take things to the max and change the name of the city of Lawton to Lincoln. That will show him!

Seriously, wouldn't that be funny? I bet Lincoln would sue the state to prevent that from happening!

Also, for the Lawtonites about to leave an angry comment, remember I'm just joking around. Although I'd never want to live there, I think Lawton is a nice city and I'm just goofing off. In fact, I'd be honored if Lawton was named after me! I'd go with my last name. You have to admit, Riley has a nice ring to it.
