Louis Fowler continues remarkable recovery!

12:26 PM EDT on May 9, 2022

Before we get started with this week's batch of digestible Internet content, I wanted to pass along an update on our good pal Louis Fowler.

Back in early February, Louis – TLO's food and culture critic – suffered a life-threatening stroke that left him paralyzed on his right side, and – outside of saying "yes," "no," and a couple of other mumbles – unable to verbally communicate.

It's now been three months or so since that stroke, and I'm happy to report Louis continues to make a remarkable recovery!

Thanks to an intense regiment of physical and speech therapy, Louis is able to move and walk around with no assistance. And although some words flow a bit easier than others, he's able to talk and effectively communicate, too. Based on where he was just 100 days ago, it's inspiring to see all the improvement he's made.

I got to see Louis's improvement first-hand yesterday when we met up for lunch in Norman. We had some good food and conversation at The Meating Place, and then walked next door to Guestroom Records to shop for vinyl. I was also able to present him with this special gift – an autographed location card from the set of Reservation Dogs...

The location sign is autographed by Reservation Dogs co-creator and showrunner Sterlin Harjo, as well as series stars D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Devery Jacobs, Paulina Alexis, Lane Factor, Dallas Goldtooth, and Zahn McClarnon. We'd like to sincerely thank everyone who put this together for their badass act of kindness. You can read all of Louis's Reservation Dogs episode recaps here.

Since Louis was released from the rehabilitation hospital back in late March, he and his dog Sean Gomez have been staying with his mom  – Anne – in the Noble area. She's essentially become Louis's full-time caretaker, assisting with his day-to-day needs, and shuffling him to and from doctor and rehab appointments. While he continues his recovery, he wants to let all the Ogle Moles know he appreciates all the support and encouragement he's received. He'd also like to thank all the nurses, doctors, physical therapists, speech pathologists, and other healthcare professionals for their support and care.

As Louis continues to get better, I'll share more updates along the way.

Stay with The Lost Ogle. We'll keep you advised.
