Last week, a group of Oklahoma Senators led by State Senator Rob Standridge submitted a committee substitute bill that, if passed and signed into law, will amend state statutes to make it a misdemeanor to give "obscene material" (a.k.a. pornography) to any vulnerable person, including one "experiencing homelessness."

Whew. Aren't we lucky to have such loyal and dedicated lawmakers working for us at the capitol, focusing their time on the totally important issues that really matter?

I don't know about you, but whenever I see a homeless woman standing at a street corner begging for change –  or a man high on crack slowly pushing a Target shopping cart filled with full trash bags down May Ave. during the height of rush hour – the first thing that pops in my head is "Boy, I sure hope nobody is giving them porn! That's the last thing these people need!"

Seriously, for the love of God people, stop giving the homeless your old porno mags and DVDs! It's not right! Instead, send it directly to Rob Standridge's office at the state capitol. He needs it for research purposes.

Actually, don't do that either. Standridge's bill also makes it a crime to give obscene material to someone with intellectual disabilities, and I don't want to get you in any trouble.

To the ire of youth ministers and middle school softball coaches everywhere, the bill will also require an adult to get parental consent before giving "obscene materials" to a minor. I'm sure that will make for a fun conversation...

"Hey, Steve. This is Brock – Daniel's youth minister. I've some videos I'd like to drop off at the house, and I need to talk with you about them first..."

You know, maybe instead of requiring a creep to get mom or dad's permission before giving their kid obscene material, we just make it a crime to give minors obscene material???
