Oklahoma Named Top 10 State for Hating on LGBTQ+ Community…

Last week, Out Leadership – a global business network that aims to make LGBTQ+ equality a priority in global C-Suites – released a State LGBTQ+ Business Climate Index for 2022.

The index basically scores and ranks each state based on "20 carefully selected and nuanced markers" to determine how business-friendly and/or discriminatory they are towards the LGBTQ+ community.

With conservative Oklahoma politicians, voters, and other wackos across the state loudly and proudly leading the charge to demonize the LGBTQ+ community and make sure it's as unequal as possible, it probably shouldn't be a surprise to learn that Oklahoma ranked in the 49th spot, just a couple of points in front of our bigoted pals in South Carolina.

Here's the Bottom 10:

Wow. From Anita Bryant to Sally Kern to Cheryl Williams, Oklahoma has a long and storied history of making the LGBTQ+ community feel as unwelcomed as possible, so you'd think we'd been #50 – or as the State GOP would call it – #1 in this ranking.

Seriously, what else do we need to do? From banning LGBTQ+ book displays to blocking trans men and women from changing their birth certificate gender to telling trans teens where they should pee to warning about the hidden agendas of grumpy unicorns, we've gone out of our way to make sure we're the worst state possible for gay people. Do we also need to ban rainbows and musical theatre??? I wouldn't be surprised to see Kevin Stitt call a special session of the Oklahoma legislature to pass even more draconian measures just so we can soar past South Carolina and take home the #1 / #50 spot! This is election season, after all.

Anyway, you can view the full list and all the details behind the study here. Stay with The Lost Ogle. We'll keep you advised.
