Golden Doodle In Tow, The Village Mayor Verbally Assaults Nichols Hills Cops…

2:06 PM EDT on June 16, 2022

Tensions are escalating in the Nichols Hills / The Village turf war!

In an old-school print-only exclusive, The OKC Friday reported today that the mayor of The Village, Adam Graham, along with his unnamed golden doodle, verbally assaulted a pair of Nichols Hills police officers as they were conducting a traffic stop that crept into The Village city limits.

According to the Friday's report, Nichols Hills police claim a cop pulled over a car for going 43 in a 25 near the northern end of the town's legendary speed trap on Penn Ave., just blocks from where the thoroughfare transitions from the regal roads of Nichols Hills to the rough and tumble streets of The Village.

While dealing with the driver of that car, the police reported that another motorist pulled up, declared himself mayor of The Village, and then yelled at them through an open window, complaining that they "can't stop people in The Village!"

The Nichols Hills Police Department apparently has body cam footage of the incident and shared it with the breaking news division of The OKC Friday. We have yet to see it, but did acquire the following screenshot via The Ogle Mole Network:

First of all, yes, I've requested the full video from the Nichols Hills Police Department. And yes, I'll share it on here when we get it. It looks like wholesome entertainment the whole family can enjoy!

Second, I'd like to give it up to Mayor Graham. Way back in 1996, I received my first-ever speeding ticket along that same stretch of N. Penn. Although I didn't have the courage to coast all the way to The Village, I was only 17 at the time and super broke. What I wouldn't have given for a hero and his adorable dog to try to save me in that same situation.

Naturally, Nichols Hills cops are not too happy with the incident.

Even though Mayor Graham and his dog look about as intimidating as my four-year-old daughter's soccer team, they claim in a report that:

"His presence directly agitated an already uncooperative driver during the stop and put our safety at risk when it didn't need to be."

The Nichols Hills cops have a point. Graham should have handled the situation differently. He also should have known about the mutual aid agreement the cities have.

Although they're basically the North and South Korea of the OKC Metro, with N. Wilshire serving as a demilitarized zone of sorts, The Friday claims that The Village and Nichols Hills have had a mutual aid agreement for over 50 years. Granted, I think that only exists so the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club can send Nichols Hills police into The Village to track down employees who haven't reported to work, but it's worth noting.

Then again, just like how the plebs and peasants in olden times didn't like it when the king sent his guards into town to conduct "business," the common folk of The Village probably don't like it when the noblemen and women of Nichols Hills send their marshalls into the land of blue road signs to track down speeding highwaymen.

Anyway, I guess we'll continue to monitor and follow this story. If and when we get the full video, we'll share it.
