The lady giving the little anti-gay manifesto in the YouTube clip above is State Rep Sally Kern. She represents the brilliant people living in District 84 in Western Oklahoma City and frighteningly enough is the chair of the House Social Services Committee. As a raging heterosexual, Sally’s right-wing stereotypical Oklahoma conservative rant on homosexuality really pisses me off. In fact, it pisses me off so much that I:
• Decided to give you <edit alert!> a link to her district homepage that shows her home address in case you want to send her a letter.
• Provided you with <edit alert!> a link to picture of her house that is openly available at the Oklahoma County Assessor web page. This is in case you want to go egg it or paint a huge rainbow on the garage.
• Did some Internet sleuthing trying to hopefully uncover that one of her sons mentioned on her bio page, Jesse or Nathan, may be gay. Unfortunately, all I could found out is that one of them is apparently married to this chick. Maybe Hopefully she’s a lesbian or something. Because that would be ironic! Get it??? Satire. Ha ha.
Anyway, I’d like to think that Sally Kern would resign or get disciplined or something, but judging from the somewhat arrogant, unapologetic statements in this Channel 9 interview, I’ll bet that she’ll run for some bigger office and probably win.
(Update: Originally, we displayed picture of Ms. Kern’s house and her daughter-in-law. Because it’s Sunday, we’ve decided just link to those images. This may be a sign that we are developing a conscience, but I doubt it.)

Was just going to write about this.
She seems like such a nice lady!
She’s in the neighborhood next to mine. I used to see her signs and her slogan said she’s: “Kernservative.” I used to laugh every time I saw them.
As a non-gay man who has no desire to be gay, I still don’t undertand what “the gay agenda” is, and how it is a threat to me. Am I missing something, or is this like “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” and everyone out there is gay but me?
This is so awful. I left Oklahoma for college (partly because of attitudes like this), but I still vote absentee in District 84 (not for Kern). Before her they elected Bill Graves (the guy who kept tattooing outlawed because he thought it was immoral); now he’s our district judge!
That said, there are at least a few sensible people in District 84.
Lord, save me from your followers!
I’m tempted to buy a ton of “For Sale By Owner” signs and write “but to gays only!” on them, and put them in her front yard every day.
Crazy ass bitch!
absolutely disgusting.
Absolutely sickening. Although — it is interesting to note that the group that published the video did not reveal her name … I’m glad that it came out. Kern exemplifies the exact kind of hateful, paranoid rhetoric that makes me ashamed to be an Oklahoman.
Here’s hoping when her term is up that she won’t be reelected.
Much ado about nothing.
Stevo, will you have dinner w/me tonight?
Burt, you are sooo gay.
Awful, disgusting, sickening… These are words I’d use to describe what Kevin Underwood did to Jamie Bolin. Over-react much? On the other hand, it’s every bit your right to over-react as it is Kern’s right to believe whatever she does.
Just terrible. Gays are more dangerous than terrorism? Gays are a cancer? Gays are deadly? It amazes me that anyone would say this. You can disagree with the lifestyle without being a homophobic bigot. Obviously, Rep. Kern did not get that memo.
re: Burt
what are you springing for tonight?
Kern’s comments are way over the top, even to someone like me who doesn’t approve of same-sex relationships.
But posting a picture of her house and a picture of and link to a woman who has no relationship to her except marrying her son? I have a hard time seeing that as anything but a childish and classless action.
She is nuts, track down the legislation she has introduced.
Her Baptist minister husband pulls those strings.
Sadly, she will be re-elected.
I don’t know what’s worse, her comments or your response. Implying that her daughter-in-law is a lesbian and calling for her home to be vandalized? I’d say your reaction is almost as repulsive as Kern’s comments.
Childish and Classless! I love it!
Let me guess I just payed for her “free” speech”, from my taxes. You her how she tries to play the victim. “Puts me in jeopardy”. Oh how courageous of you.
I sent this via email and snail mail to Mrs. Kernservative:
Dear Sally Kern,
I am shocked and angry over your hateful remarks about gays. You of all people should know better than to behave that way. Your bible says that your God is the only one who has the right of judgment. As a political leader, you also know that the Constitution provides for separation of church and state, so your religious ramblings have no place in any conversation while you are a seated government official. Those two reasons alone are good enough reason for you to shut your mouth. Your husband can spew all the hate he wants to during his Sunday morning sermons. He will answer to God for that. You, however, have to answer to your constituents. I vow to tell everyone I know in the state of Oklahoma what you have done. I have thousands of friends and family members - men, women, gay, straight, business owners, political leaders, most of all…voters. I won’t rest until I am sure you NEVER serve in a government office EVER AGAIN. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Sincerely,
S. Kamiko

another reason brett>stevo.
“Childish and Classless! I love it!”
Yes, I’m sure you do. And therein lies the problem.
Bravo for the post. Words like this kill - that’s the bottom line. She’s an accomplice to attempted murder - pure and simple and she’s going to hell in her redneck hand basket.
I hope someone in the area uses the address to leave a flaming bag-o-poo on her front doorstep this evening.
Tell her it’s poo from a gay man. That will disgust her even more.
I don’t agree with somewhat implying to egg her house, etc. but I too emailed her and let her know how unacceptable this is…
Shameful…not only her comments but the fact that you encourage people to express their views with violence.
How would you feel if she gets hurt(God forbids)? What right do you have to encourage vandalism? This is not the first time you(lost Ogle) publish a personal adress. How would you feel if someone made public yours?
Who cares what a state representative from Oklahoma has to say anyway….Media is a very powerful tool and CANNOT be used carelessly.
Primo, while encouraging vandalism may be a bit excessive (I think The Lost Ogle is assuming that their readers are intelligent enough to not follow everything they read on the internet), the address and photograph of Kern’s house appear to have been taken from the Oklahoma County Assessor’s database, which means it is readily available to the anyone in the general public.
yeah, because it’s probably the “Gaygenda” steering our wonderful little society towards annihilation, right? sorry, i meant to say “anal-hilation”…hayohhhh! hey, i just coined TWO terms in ONE comment! eat my dust, blogoshpere…
Call me cliche’ but whats the point in returning hate for hate? I got my degree in poly sci at OU, and I enjoy reading this blog because its funny and it has very little to do with politics.
Is this charade disturbing? Yah, it is, just like 90% of the celebrated hate speech from Al Sharpton, or ACLU speaking on protecting partial birth abortion disturbs me. However, if you are going to make this blog political, and get all pissy about someone speaking her constitutionally protected opinions then I suggest toning the response down a bit.
I’m about as laid back as you get for a political guru that still works in the industry, but I’m not ashamed to live in Oklahoma because there happens to be bigotry in this state. There are closed minded bigots everywhere in every state, and you all forget that this hate monger was elected as a representative by (probably) other hate mongers. Its still a representative form of state government. I had a sticker on one of my old notebooks I used in campaigns that said, “A person of diversity and tolerance keyed my car”. Returning intolerance for intolerance seems like a wild contradiction.
I’d like to end this with some wise comments, ”
Commenting Policy: Comments are always encouraged, but please remember that TheLostOgle.com is not a message board and/or open forum. Comments may be moderated or deleted, especially those that are too long and take things too seriously.”
You guys can’t give people a reason to take things too seriously.
oh yah, one more thing. I love all you sons of bitches. I say we go out for a drink and pick up some transsexual hookers to bury the hatchet. Cardboard Traber can come too…and the Russian intern.
Sally Kern makes baby Jesus cry
It only takes about two minutes to find and post the public information that I gathered. And whoever posted this:
“I think The Lost Ogle is assuming that their readers are intelligent enough to not follow everything they read on the internet.”
Thank You!
Thinking or assuming that readers are “intelligent” enough is a lame excuse to “wash your hands off”.
Look, you’re old enough to know your actions. Just tell me, Patrick (or Clark) how would you like it if someone who thinks differently than you (for whatever reason) will do the same thing to you?
I’m not asking to you agree with her (or to like her). All I’m saying is you have to be more carefull, like it or not you are a very influential media and you can show better class than her (and the rest of the media) by encouraging a different kind of approach.
Wow. This is now headline news on Perez Hilton’s blog - the most read blog in the world. http://www.perezhilton.com - more than a million people have seen this now.
I edited out the part with the address, because I thought it had become a distraction in this discussion.
Still think it would be great if everyone would write to let her know what you think. I’ve linked to her official page where you can contact her.
Our big league city sales tax extension coupled with her remarks will surely attract a lot of new businesses to Oklahoma. “Come and live and work with rednecks” should be our next slogan.
Sally Kern has won my respect! Here is a woman with guts. Someone who voices her moral convictions despite their unpopularity among a small, vocal, belligerent group of free-speech-stifling people. Amazed at the amount of intolerance among the “tolerant.”
It doesn’t take guts to say hateful things, Larz. It takes guts to stand up against them. Sally is a coward.
Gays worse than terrorists? Tell that to the family members of the 169 people killed in the Murrah Building. I’m pretty sure gays haven’t killed 169 people in Oklahoma.
Primo
her address is a very public record, as an elected official, it is published all over state government websites
Tony (Clark & Patrick)
All I have to say is: Thank you!
Now let the discussion begin…
Influential media???
If somebody is influenced by a website called The Lost Ogle, they need to get some help.
If someone wants to come paint a rainbow on my garage door, shoot me an email and I’ll give you my address. And while you’re at it, could you touch up the trim.
Put up a photo of her hubby Steve’s Church — He’s the pastor at Olivet Baptist Church. I bet a rainbow, and a few tuna melts tossed casually would spruce up the place. Maybe a mural of Sally scissoring with Phyllis Schlafly and Steve sucking Fred Phelps’s dick would add comedic relief (if it didn’t blind and traumatize you forever).
maybe toby keith will write a pro-gay anti-kern song. doubtful since he’s in a movie and all now.
also, sometimes moral convictions are stupid. just because you attach the words “moral” and “conviction” to a bunch of hate doesn’t legitimize it.
This is a link to a DEA website detailing a list of people charged with distributing Ecstasy. There is a Nathan Kern listed. One of her sons is named Nathan. I don’t know if this is the same person.
http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/pubs/pressrel/pr083001.html
Public figures who receive tax money and say boneheaded things are open for scrutiny, ridicule and parody. Further, addresses of officials are OPEN RECORD and are as easily obtainable as court documents. And since when were deputies from the PC POLICE avid Lost Ogle readers? If you don’t get the joke there are plenty of newsok stories that need comments.
I consider myself a Christian - born and raised a Methodist. I’m so glad that I was taught Christian values of tolerance, compassion and acceptance - traits that Jesus exemplified throughout the Bible. People who hide their hate speech behind Christianity disgust me. I feel sorry for Sally Kern - we should all be praying for her soul.
Seriously, immigration and homosexuality are the biggest threats our legislature has to deal with? Wow. Just wow.
Clark, rainbows are nice, but some might want to know if you have a preference for USDA Grade AA or A, size Jumbo or Large, or if you’d feel better if the eggs came from free range chickens.
I lived the first 37 years of my life in the rural south and the last 3 in Southern California. I grew up knowing ridiculous people like this woman. Now, it’s easy for me to forget that people like her still exist, spewing insane and hateful comments like this. It’s beyond me how someone can have such a warped and sick mind like her. I hope someone can start a campaign to get her fired/recalled. While I can’t vote in OKL, I can sure pledge some money to help unseat her. She should be ashamed of herself, not only as a “Christian” that she claims to be, but more importantly as a fellow human.
This was just picked up by CNN News but will sadly be buried now by the breaking Spitzer scandal.
She has the right to speak her mind, just like gays have the choice to be gay and speak thier mind about it. BFD folks…BFD…I wish people would find something a little more important to get passionate about.
She bases her beliefs on the Bible and the Bible is VERY, in fact, CRYSTAL clear about homosexuality and its place. In fact, the Bible goes on to say hate the sin and not the sinner. So for what she believes, she has not done anything wrong.
Saying it in a public forum like that is probably not the most tactful thing, but to call it discusting is wrong. She is exercising her right to free speech, just as you are. Nothing discusting about that.
Im really not into the whole gay thing - except for two hot chicks getting it on - but Kern is certifiable. Worse than Terrorism? How can Lauren Richardson and Amy McRee making sweet love to each other be worse than terrorism?
Guys, please leave Sally Kern’s kids out of this.
What she’s said is reprehensible and deserving of all the derision that can be dished out. I heartily encourage her constituents to voice their displeasure in whatever LEGAL manner they see fit, namely by supporting any candidate running against her this fall (representatives are elected every two years.)
That said, she’s not speaking for her kids. Her son and daughter-in-law are friends of mine and are sensible, decent people who probably read the Lost Ogle (I know her daughter-in-law would think it’s great.)
To my knowledge, neither of her sons are anything other than upstanding, good guys. Her daughter-in-law isn’t a lesbian.
Please continue to get a laugh at the stupid things this elected official (read: PUBLIC PERSON) says and does, but refrain from ripping into the family members who have not injected themselves into the situation (read: PRIVATE PERSONS.) It’s tacky and it’s legally/ethically questionable.
“She has the right to speak her mind, just like gays have the choice to be gay and speak thier mind about it. BFD folks…BFD…I wish people would find something a little more important to get passionate about.”
Um no one is saying she doesn’t have the right to “speak her mind” however ignorant and stupid she sounds like. BFD? Yes because it’s always wonderful when someone else makes our state look like ignorant bigots. No offense but please show the scientific evidence that someone “chooses to be gay”. I’ll save you the effort because you can’t and it is laughable that people actually think someone chooses to be discriminated against and treated like a second class citizen.
“She bases her beliefs on the Bible and the Bible is VERY, in fact, CRYSTAL clear about homosexuality and its place. In fact, the Bible goes on to say hate the sin and not the sinner. So for what she believes, she has not done anything wrong.”
No it’s not but people like Kern and I suspect you, will continue to use the bible as an excuse to hate and discriminate. I haven’t cut out the people in my life that love shellfish, nor have I refused to associate with women who wear pants (though a few fatties that still wear stirrup pants scare me).
“Saying it in a public forum like that is probably not the most tactful thing, but to call it discusting is wrong. She is exercising her right to free speech, just as you are. Nothing discusting about that.”
Just as this forum is exercising it’s right to call her and her comments “discusting”. Just as I am exercising my right to call her a giant Ahole.
Please remove links to Rep. Kern’s sons and daughter-in-law. As a longtime friend of the daughter-in-law, I assure you that she is nothing but the genuine article and does not wish to be associated with the comments of her mother-in-law in any way shape or form. Please feel free to direct all angry comments directly to Rep. Kern, as she’s made deplorable and ridiculous comments, just PLEASE leave her family out of it! She got herself into this mess alone, let her dig herself out alone. Once again, please do not email or contact her family. They do not support the comments made by Rep. Kern. Thanks!
This really upsets me. My older brother is a gay
The Olivet Church slogan:
“The end of your search for a friendly church.”
You can bet that Coach Sally wanted to get friendly with the showering girls after volleyball practice. Ms. Kerns finds that her homophobic rants are beneficial in her daily struggle with gay temptations and desires.
“She bases her beliefs on the Bible and the Bible is VERY, in fact, CRYSTAL clear about homosexuality and its place. In fact, the Bible goes on to say hate the sin and not the sinner. So for what she believes, she has not done anything wrong.”
The Bible is also very clear on the eating of shellfish, as both are described an “abominable” sin in Leviticus, yet Red Lobster is not described as a bigger threat to our country than terrorism. Pick and choose much?
Clark…you and Skarky’s boy toy do nothing but prove my points.
Pick and chose much? Go read your Bible again Clark. You guys can use the shellfish argument all you want but if you want to really go that far, do you guys bury your excrement at least 100 cubits from your house? have you ever slept with your wife while she’s…well, you know…Many of those things were put into place to protect the Israelites from sickness and disease. Paul didn’t write anything about shellfish, so I think Red Lobster’s safe for now.
I do not hate people, but I can hate what they do. Obviously, you guys are hating what Mrs. Kerns does and thats fine. AGAIN BIG FREAKING DEAL!
Dustin, Clark’s point is that you can’t say the Bible is crystal clear about homosexuality unless you also believe it is crystal clear about wearing clothes with mixed fibers, eating shellfish, touching pig skin and all the other nonsense mentioned in Leviticus. The Bible isn’t just what was written by Paul. There are many books written by many authors, and all of them are included. You also have to understand that your Bible is translated from other languages, and sometimes the translation is not perfect. There were no terms in biblical times for a committed, monogamous gay relationship. The references in your Bible were to orgies and group sex.
I think what bothers people most about Sally and her ilk is the hypocrisy. Adultery is very definitely a sin. It is a major social problem in this state that tears families apart every day, even in Sally’s church I would imagine. It’s certainly more of a clear threat to our community than homosexuality. But where is the outrage? Where are Sally’s bills preventing adulterers from re-marrying? Hypocrisy.
Common sense…please read Romans 1:27-32 and tell me what you think.
It’s rather presumptious of you to think that I only use one Bible. I do not just “go to church on Sunday” and listen to what my preacher says without question. I actually did quite a bit of research before settling where I did. I actually own five different translations and have studied several more. I’m glad I have a clear understanding of what the Bible says. I mention Paul simply because he wrote the majority of the Greek scriptures, most people argue that all the references to homosexuality come from the Hebrew scriptures. I was pointing out that is not the case.
Unless one of your five Bibles is in ancient aramaic or one of the other dead languages that was in vogue 2,000 years ago, my point still stands. You don’t have a clear understanding what the Bible says in reference to homosexuality. The references in the original text were not to committed, monogamous gay relationships, plain and simple.
I notice you also failed to address the point about adultery. Where does this passion for the issue of homosexuality come from? Why aren’t people like Sally up in arms over the sins that ACTUALLY affect their community, like adultery? Where is the outrage and pending legislation to deal with the problem, which leads to all other sorts of social problems that, unlike the gay agenda, are real and pose an imminent threat to the well-being of thousands?
“dylan says:
This really upsets me. My older brother is a gay”
I almost pissed myself laughing…
Dustin:
Maybe if you followed the words of Jesus and actually cared about everyone, not just everyone who agrees with you, you’d understand the outrage…Also, since you are such a free speech maven, how much have you contributed to the ACLU this week?
WTF do her kids and a daughter-in-law have to do with this? And hiding behind the publicly-accessible nature of the links, yeah right.
I love thelostogle.com (in a non-gay way) but this 100% dumbass post rivals that which you are pissing and moaning about.
Congrats.
“I do not hate people, but I can hate what they do. Obviously, you guys are hating what Mrs. Kerns does and thats fine. AGAIN BIG FREAKING DEAL!”
You hate what people do? Why would you care what two consenting adults do in the privacy of their own home? Doesn’t hating something require some kind of thought process. So does this mean you think about what two people of the same sex do?
So yes people use the bible to discriminate and justify their own prejudices. Pick and choose much? Yes that’s what you appear to be doing.
Big freaking deal? Well obviously it is since you continue to comment on it and it has made national news. Perhaps Sally should join the Phelps clan in Kansas that appears to be more her kind of group.
Whatever it takes guys. You’ve made your points…
Gan, you don’t know me or what I do…what I care for…etc. I do care for everyone probably more so than you will ever know or do.
Sooner Dustin
Shut up and stop your preaching. We aren’t at bible school. Sally Kern is a hateful and judgmental person. The last time I checked someone else’s sex life was none of Sally Kern’s business (why are churchgoing folks so quick to get into everyone’s personal business?) And if you really think about it, you don’t choose who you fall in love with, it just happens. Physical attraction is exactly that.
Thanks Melissa…you are a peach.
OK, thanks for your thoughts, everyone. Dustin gets the last word.
