Markie Martin is leaving KOCO Channel 5…

Changes are coming to a KOCO Channel 5 morning show near you!

Late last week, Markie Martin – one of the 20 Hottest Women in the Oklahoma City News Media if we still ranked the 20 Hottest Women in the Oklahoma City News Media – announced on social media that she is leaving the KOCO Channel 5 morning show.

SIGNING OFF 📺 Trying to type through the tears on my keyboard; however, it is with a bittersweet heart that I announce to you all that I have decided to leave KOCO 5. My five years here have been beautiful—my greatest adventure yet, but life is pulling me in another direction. Words cannot adequately express the love, gratitude and appreciation I have for our viewers and this community. But I have attempted—Please read my “Love Letter to OKC” that explains, in full, my decision to go (link in stories + website). My last day with you will be this Wednesday. Would love more than anything for you to tune in and send me off with love! Thank you, Oklahoma, you have been my dearest treasure 🖤 Xo, MM

That’s sweet. That being said, I do feel sorry for whoever gets Markie’s old keyboard:

“Hey Abigail, why are your hands covered with smeared mascara, blush and eyeshadow?”

“Damnit! They gave me Markie Martin’s old keyboard!”

In case you’re wondering why Markie is leaving your grandparents’ TV screen, I think I have part of the answer:

Yep, it looks like Markie is pulling the old “Get engaged after 10 years of dating and quit your job” routine, or maybe she’s like everyone else in TV news and hates her job and wanted to quit. Who knows?

Back in TLO’s brah’stool days, I bet we would have been pretty upset about Markie’s departure, posted a photo tribute listicle in her honor, and made fun of her fiance. Now that we’ve matured, I’m just going to point you to her vague, over-dramatized “Love Letter to OKC” that feels like it was written by an emotional high school grad who’s moving out-of-state for college. We wish her the best of luck in her future adventures.
